Assassin's Creed III - Discussion Thread

I am yet to finish it.Therefore no comments on the overall game.right now i am in the middle of sequence 10.The bear hunting missions are awesome.:D

See my comment #371 .

In addition to that, they have tried to put some RPG elements into it like engaging in dialogues, crafting items, trading stuff.

But I feel all this adds up to nothing since there should be genuine rewards for actually doing the side missions.

Weapon and armor upgrades haven't been dealt properly.

They have tried to make the combat slightly more fluid but the enemy AI isn't up to the mark and as such the combat remains slow.

The best parts that really stand out in the game are tree hopping plus randomized platforming, naval missions, Captain Kidd missions.

I really miss the chase and vehicle sequences as well as those Da Vinci type machines.

The story seems to be forcefully thrust into real life historical events and the protagonist, although powerful, is not much of an actual Assassin like Altair or Ezio so as to say, since there's no real assassin guild.

The Da Vinci sequences in Brotherhood were fantastic! Esp. the flying machine sequence. Brings back a lot of memories. :(

I am definitely going to miss Ezio and Jesper Kyd's soundtracks. I forgot to ask - how are the tracks in this game?

^^No tracks.Almost no background music during free roaming if thats what you are asking.During specific missions we do get some intense battle music in the background and they are good.

A SHORT REVIEW

STORY

Its the last half of 18th century.America is yet to become the United States of America.Opposition against the British empire is at its peak. The environment is very chaotic.People wants only one thing called freedom. There are riots everywhere. But in the midst of this revolution there is also a group which is secretly fighting for something more than just freedom. We know them in this game as the templars.
Now how our protagonist Ratonhnhaké:ton aka connor gets caught in this struggle is the story of assassins creed III.

Yes ubisoft tried hard to fit the story of AC III in to the American revolution timeline. To some extent i would say they succeeded. But unfortunately as you progress you can clearly mark out its weak spots. But still the story of AC III is different than the other games. Its more mature & political this time for obvious reasons.I wont discuss much about the story and its flaws because they will act as a spoiler.

CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT

Connor is not as charming as ezio. When he means business he means business. But unfortunately throughout the game he means business only. Yeah he never laughs.Well overall character development is good. But like i said many of you wont feel the bond with connor like you felt with ezio.

GAMEPLAY

Overall actions have improved. You will see some cool new animations.Jumping from tree to tree is really fun and a new addition to this game.
The story missions mainly requires you to chase, eavesdrop, follow, stealth, fire cannons, command troops & execute a high profile target. But the most interesting ones are the naval missions (There are many in the side quests too).In short there are a lot of things to do in this game.It is HUGE.Most interesting side quests are the naval & homestead quests.
This time they tried to imitate RDR.Which means here also you can hunt and skin animals to earn some extra money.

Unfortunately this game has so many glitches and bugs that it can spoil your mood completely. It suffers from popping up textures, low frame rates(still ignorable) at some places,Poor controls, poor horse animation & invisible walls.

SOUND

Voice acting is good & music by Lorne Balfe is not at all bad.You can hear some rich thematic music during the battles and the cutscenes.Unfortunately background music is absent during free roam.

VISUALS

It really looks good on consoles too. This game is astounding when it comes to details. The weather change and their after effects are shown pretty decently.Like after the rain you will find the forest roads muddy. The cities are pretty much detailed & filled with busy people. The lighting effects are wonderful.
Overall its a good looking game.

MULTIPLAYER

Seems similar to what was introduced in brotherhood. But here we have a co-op mode too called wolf pack in which four players are required to work together to kill the npc targets.I have not spend much time in the multiplayer therefore cannot say much about it.But i found it interesting enough.

CONCLUSION

AC III surely has a host of issues, but this game offers so much that if you can really immerse yourself into the game then you will overlook every one of it.

PS:-If you are a big fan of AC II then chances are you may end up hating it.

Hi,
just wanted to find out if others are facing issues with unlocking the treasure chests ? cuz they just dont seem to unlock !!! :(

Are you trying to lock-pick them? If yes, practise more OR switch over to mouse + keyboard (if you are on a PC).

yea .. on the x360 bro. i guess to open treasure chests, lock picks are the only option available. correct ? practise more ? i'l tried to pick a lock by pressing the RT button after the tension angle and the other has been locked in for over 15times. :( sucks.

^^ I hated this mechanic, cannot help the fact that it sucks so bad.

Even much less known games like Risen got this right, lock-pick system in Risen II --

got it working ..probably was some glitch .. had checked it on google .. i hadnt updated the game via usb drive.. works great now .. all the locks are picked on the first try only :):)

Started the title yesterday and completed the first 3 sequences with 100% synch. The new dude on the block - Haytham Kenway is not as charming and mature as Ezio and I am yet to like this guy. May be things might improve later on. The gameplay is terribly slow and other than doing some random errands, the game is still a long shot from what was offered in AC II and Brotherhood. Hoping for something better towards the later sequences.

Wait for a surprise soon! :p

Captain Kidd missions - I am eagerly looking forward for this. I recall how much I used to love these missions in the previous iterations. And some with those intense chase sequences wherein we couldn't afford to miss a single ledge or platform. :D

^

Err, don't expect too much since these ones are much smaller in their extent and playtime :(

Honestly, I am not expecting much from this game knowing how the reviews turned up - both critics as well as users. :(

I feel pity for the console! There're so much frame rate drops at random locations, I really doubt if Ubi cared if the game ran well on the consoles. Looks like a sad development to me.

Its a problem with the anvil next.coding is poor but atleast the performance in consoles is better than the pcs.To enjoy this game completely unfortunately you have to do a little research on the american revolution or atleast go through the important events which this game focuses on.Like the "boston tea party","Battles of Lexington and Concord","Siege of Boston" etc etc.Overall its not that bad as some people are claiming it to be.Its more of an educational game:lol:

Is it that bad on the PC?

Because anyway these AC games usually give horrible FPS on consoles (poor in cities while decent in places like caves and all).

Yep. Frame rates fluctuate (in cities), free running is broken for me in BOSTON, lock-picking is an abomination. The economy makes no sense. You hardly generate anything off the land and you have to buy everything from your technically speaking 'tenants'. =|

Saving grace are naval missions, combat which feels justifiably BRUTAL and free-running and hunting mechanics (when they work).

And there are rumours afloat that the next Assassin's Creed game comes out next year. This franchise is heading from L337 to PHAIL standards (next Call of BlackField: Ek Tha WarFighter in making).
