Seagate Goflex Net Discussion

Adept
I just purchased this unit and was installing the Archlinux on it.
I have done all the steps properly mentioned here till step no 20, but after that I cannot SSH into the goflex and neither its taking any IP. I am new to linux and really dont know what to do now.

Please help :please:

Hmm may be some dep modules wasn't done before reboot.

Unplug the goflex and plug it again try to run a ping from 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.254 I know this but this only I could figure out.Don't think the flex is booted properly if it does not works plug out your usb and connect to pc using ext2fsd and extract the root fs to usb.Yesterday I did screw up my pogo ip by manually setting it incorrectly but I got it reverted.

Or just wait till varkey lands he has the device and have experience on it.

Had to again format the drive and install the armlinux. Also configured fixed IP to the Goflex. Finally its working. Have installed couple of apps. I am stuck at using Samba, I have created one folder line /mnt/Sambad. My conf file look like this:

[global]

workgroup = WORKGROUP

server string = ALARM

netbios name = ALARM

security = share

load printers = no

printing = bsd

printcap name = /dev/null

disable spools = yes

log file = /var/log/samba/%m.log

max log size = 50

dns proxy = no

socket options = TCP_NODELAY IPTOS_LOWDELAY SO_KEEPALIVE SO_RCVBUF=131072 SO_SNDBUF=131072 SO_KEEPALIVE

[ArchLinuxARM]

path = /mnt/sambad

read only = no

public = yes

writable = yes

force user = root

When I start the server, its coming as line 121, command not found though the server is starting.

Now in windows I am using \\192.168.x.x. to access the folder, its showing me blank folder but I am not able to paste anything over there.

I am using samba for the first time so I think I am missing some basic things, please help .....

Working fine now.

What's in /mnt/sambad? Are the permissions correct?

Btw - Why don't you just install debian dheeraj has stored in his dropbox just extract and play; -)

Now Samba is working properly. Have to change the configuration file. I have mapped the drive to my windows machine and its working great. Will try to install debian.

Thanks :)

--- Updated Post - Automerged ---

Being completely new to linux, after initial hiccups, I am able to put Samba and transmission on the goflex which is working fine.

Now I am learning for port forwarding and installing other applications for direct downloads. Any guide for that would be really helpful.

I am planning to install debian on it now. How should I migrate from Archlinux to debian ? Will I lose any data which is saved on the HDD(ext3)?

Just get the tarball from varkey or dheeraj and extract that too root of HDD and add mac address to it and then boot

After getting goflex net First thing i did was updated bootloader ;( , without any issue. (so goflex was not booting)
then i installed debian on USB , followed Howto: Create Debian rootfs image for your GoFlex/Dockstar via debootstrap on a Ubuntu/Debian PC with varkey kernel.
i am able to ssh goflex without any problem.

but when i try to update uboot ,

cd /tmp wget http://jeff.doozan.com/debian/uboot/install_uboot_mtd0.sh chmod +x install_uboot_mtd0.sh ./install_uboot_mtd0.sh

i get following ERROR.

Did you install the ubit version from ArchLinux ? If yes, just append -no-uboot-check and run the installer.

Which links if you have direct links then just use aget

Code:
aget [url]http://website.com/file.pdf[/url] &

Wherever aget is located go there and run it

Code:
which aget

/usr/bin/aget

Either you have changed your $PATH or aget is not installed.
