Laptop under 72K, Suggestions needed!

What's your Budget? (e.g. >30K, not more than 50K etc.)

Not more than Rs.72K

What will be your primary usage for the notebook be? (e.g. web surfing/office apps/Casual Gaming)

web surfing, office apps, watching movies, Photoshop, gaming

What size and weight considerations do you have? (e.g. Do you want a 17" desktop replacement or you want an ultraportable 12" or something in between)

15", weight doesnt matter.

Any brand that you prefer, or any brand that you detest? (e.g some would prefer to stay away from Acer or Dell)

Any brand will do. However I can get a 12% off on the final price if its Dell. (Dell Employee)

Any other considerations? (e.g Battery life; Widescreen/non-widescreen; Glossy/Matte screen etc.)

Widescreen

Are u Nut's ??????

go for the Dell Xps 15 which will cost u some thing around 65 k { search for the review or in these section for the same }

Plus u are an dell employee :O come on don't be stupid to buy any other brand now :p

and the nut's thing is for thinking for other brand in that segment even after being a dell employee ;)

@prince,

Bro, what I meant to say is that, I have friends working in HP and IBM(for Lenovo), so similar discounts for their employees are valid with them too.

Few questions about Dell XPS:

1. Can back-lit keypad's light be turned off when not required?

2. Will Full HD make any big difference or shall I go for the normal one?

3. Choosing 8GB ram over 4GB costs almost 3.5K more, is that worth the money?

I am looking for an all-rounder laptop, the lesser its costs the better as I can save some money for buying a D-SLR.

1. Yes

2. It makes a world of a difference. Do not think twice about getting the Full HD screen. Its a beauty

3. Do not choose 8 GB RAM, just get 4 GB and later buy another 4GB stick aftermarket for about 2k.

@Babu, thanks for the help mate!

Any other suggestions? Like any other brand or model?

Please help me choosing the right machine guys!!

There is not an overall better machine than the Dell XPS 15 in your budget mate :). So go ahead with it without worrying about having missed out a better model. You get a better screen only spending 1 lac +. Overall one of the best laptops for a movie buff due to the killer screen and speakers. Also since the screen is so good it will be perfect for photoshop as well.

@Devilinearth

Thanks to you dude, I am also getting an L502x with i5

It will arrive today(Show Offs soon)

Regarding your Rig,

The config you posted is great.

But Bear in mind that it is a Desktop replacement and is like a Brick in your Backpack..

If you travel with it alot, then kindly avoid it..

Else, Its a BEAST!!

You can check the HP 6165tx. with i7 2670, 4gb ram and 2GB ati 6770 - the best available graphics card in the indian market now in sub 60K range.

No full HD (it is overkill for a 15 inch IMHO), no backlit keyboard, Speakers are not as good as Dell XPS.

Get 2 years extended on-site warranty with one year accidental damage. Overall cost will be 55+5K ~ 60K.

So, make your choice accordingly.

About RAM, you can add a Corsair 4gb DDR3 stick for 1.5K from ebay.

dont hesitate to get full hd screen for 15" .its a real beauty to watch photos or movies in full hd screen even if its 15" only.

Bro u will cry later if u get a standard 720p screen rather than a full hd1080p screen.

I can tell u because i am using full hd dell xps l501x laptop,

u have to see the full hd screen to really believe it.

@Babu.Mohan, Yes dude, I think XPS is the best in this price range. Thanks a lot for your suggestions!

@Teja, I am glad that you are finally getting a new laptop. Please do a full review. Nica Diwali gift from Dell to you! :)

@Lappy.chai, HP at 60K sounds good, after the employee discount it should come around 53. But for 10K more, I am getting FHD screen, backlit KB, Blueray Drive, Good speakers in XPS, So I guess I should go for XPS. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks for the suggestion about RAM, 4GB ram in Dell is costing around 3.8K more! and thats too much!

@Nomad, Macbook will not meet all my primary requirements. :)

No, gives me good elevation while typing. Or may be just me :p

I don't know about new configs, I get around approx 2 hours on movies & 3 hours on normal usage. If one would go with 6 cell, then imagine the battery life :eek:hyeah:

i absolutely hate the added bump/thickness by the 9 cell battery :p but as you mentioned it differs from person to person, those battery life figures are terrible for a 9 cell battery, 3hrs normal usage can be done with 6 cell batteries and 9 cell batteries should last 4.5hrs.
