^^ That too, thats with Crappy 667 Mhz RAM.

It wasnt a fair comparison really..

The real benchmarks are on XS :eek:hyeah:
yeah its like they were trying to slow the bloomin thing down...still didn't work!!
any proper links to the conroe architecture btw??

ATI "Conroe" Benchmarks Surface

A non-confidential document of Conroe benchmarks on Intel and ATI motherboards surfaced earlier this week. RD600, which we reported on DailyTech yesterday, was the primary motherboard featured in the testing, but ATI also featured an Intel 975X motherboard for comparison.

The slides contain benchmarks for 3DMark2001SE, 3DMark03, 3DMark05, 3DMark06, Fear 1.03, FarCry and Everest 2.80. Unfortunately, these benchmarks are for the most part GPU bound, but what is most interesting about these slides is the overclocking. The benchmarks include the testing of a Core E6300 (1.86GHz 1066FSB) processor running at 2.4GHz with a 1372MHz front side bus.

Intel will lift a general embargo about Conroe on June 4th, 2006, and the company roadmaps have detailed CPU pricing for July 23, 2006.

Bit-Tech.NET - Intel Conroe Performance Preview

Core 2 Duo is clearly a very capable processor, but there are some areas where it could be faster. It's not often that we're spoiled by something that completely blows us out of the water, but this could be it - if anything, it leaves us wanting more. However, we have some worries about its multi-tasking performance, which doesn't appear to be quite as good as the chip that Conroe will be replacing later this year.

We found that it was faster than the current flagship Pentium Extreme Edition 965 processor in nearly every single-threaded scenario, but there were times where Conroe fell behind in multi-tasking scenarios. One area that completely blew us out of the water was the sheer prowess when it comes to gaming. This is an area where Intel has been traditionally weak.

This initial preview serves as an indication as to Conroe's performance - but again, we iterate that we will draw our final conclusions as to its performance when we have the complete, shipping hardware in our hands - something that no website or company has yet, save Intel.

One thing that we can't wait to find out is just how much you've got to spend in order to get equivalent performance to today's current flagship CPU - AMD's Athlon 64 FX-62. We can't wait to find out later this summer.

Tom's Hardware - Conroe 2.67GHz vs. FX62

we were able to determine that not even AMD's top-of-the-line Athlon FX-62 CPU running at 3.0 GHz could clearly best the pre-release model of the Core 2 Duo (2.66 GHz Conroe) processor we tested. This comparison didn't even use the top-of-the-line Conroe processor, which Intel plans to introduce soon.

But how fast and powerful will Intel's new processor technology prove to be in practice? This is something we can only answer with some certainty after we've had a chance to test it ourselves in our own labs. In the meantime, it looks like AMD's going to have to get to work in order to keep up with Intel!

Firing Squad - Intel Core 2 Benchmarks

Based on today’s preliminary Core2 Duo benchmarks, it looks like Intel’s next-generation Core 2 CPUs will be turning in incredible performance once they hit retail. The Core2 Duo E6600 chip turned in very impressive results in SiSoft Sandra’s multimedia tests, most likely thanks to the enhancements Intel has incorporated into Core2’s SSE engine such as its 128-bit registers. The Athlon 64 FX did hold its own in the memory bandwidth tests, thanks most likely to its integrated memory controller. In real world usage the Core2 system ran Quake 4 faster than the Athlon 64 FX we tested, in some cases by as much as 9%. Looking over the results, you can’t help but be impressed by Core2’s performance results.

That sounds a bit odd, delaying it to september hmmm. My guess is the site is just bullshitting. This is INTEL, once they give a date they'll stick to it(most of the time at least)

The date Intel has given is only the date on which they will start shipping the processors.

And, AFAIK that date has not been changed.

The problem is that, all the first chips, or at least, almost all of them, will go to the big OEMs.

Which means that Core 2 chips might appear for retail sale only some time later.

Probably the most extensive Conroe review yet:-
Benchmarking Intel Conroe Core 2 X6800, E6700 and E6600 - TweakTown

No wonder all the Intel staff had big grins on their faces all this week as they walked around here at Computex in Taiwan – they are sitting on a kick ass processor and just waiting for the right time to launch it into the market.

Not once did AMD’s current highest performing and most expensive FX-62 processor come close to beating the Conroe. At times, the X6800 was over 50% faster.

As far as gaming performance goes, Intel is looking very strong and as we have predicated and told many people at the Computex show throughout the week, Intel is looking like they will be the gamer CPU of choice in H2 2006 and all of 2007. The Core 2 Extreme clocked at 2.93GHz was able to beat the AMD Athlon FX-62 on average by 15% in our gaming benchmarks.

:hap2:  :hap2:

Even the E6700 and the E6600 perform better than the FX-62 most of the time...

Core 2 Duo Performance Update - ExtremeTech (June 14, 2006)

The Core microarchitecture has us excited. Those performance numbers look extremely promising. Remember, the AMD-based system we tested against was roughly the same performance as the FX-62, but the Core 2 Duo was not the highest-end Extreme SKU. Rather, it was the CPU one step down. And it still put a serious hurt on the AMD system.

It's worth noting that the Intel systems we tested on were noticeably quieter than the overclocked FX-60s. We weren't in an environment where we could make any real noise measurements, but it was a salient reminder that the Intel chips have a maximum thermal rating of 65W, while the AMD chips are rated at 110W. It looks from these early tests as if Intel's boasts of dramatically better performance with dramatically less power utilization are going to come true.

I think it was known that ASUS would release their boards around the same time that Conroe launces.

EDIT: wooow, my 999th post - I think I'll keep at this for a while :p

Just to let you guys know.

Intel D975XBX revision 304 is now available in india.

Pricing 17500 all inclusive. Thats 5K over US pricing for now which aint too shabby but well this is one nice board with plenty of mods available for end users and out of box compatibility with conroe and great overclocking abilities ( those who following XS will know ;) )
