CPU/Mobo Athlon II X4 620 - the most VFM CPU?

Can you imagine a quad core for 5.5k?
Yes, if somebody could do that it would certainly be AMD and they have done just that with their new Athlon II x4 620.
At a stock speed of 2.6Ghz it easily packs a punch , and according to reviews It's an overclockers delight with overclocking capacity upto 3.9Ghz on air cooling!.
According to tests when overclocked it easily beats phenom II 550 and Q6600.
The only disadvantage it may have is the lack L3 cache but if you can get hold of a particular/older batch processor you can even unlock that with ACC feature. Also when paired with a medium-high end graphics card the lack of L3 cache doesn't affect the performance and you have the power of 4 cores to do all your encoding stuffs.
But now to the most important question to you guys ..
Should i buy Phenom II x2 550 or Athlon II x4 620?
AMD has just added to my confusion...
All TE tech experts please think on it and reply of quickly cos i need to buy a new processor by this Sunday... So please help me out...

At that price I guess the 620 seems to be better since for gaming the gpu's are more important and for almost everything else the 620 beats the 550 by a significant margin, especially video encoding. I wonder how it performs with an unlocked 550 though.

yup, its the best vfm proccy out of the box

but nowhere near an unlocked 550, aka B50 X4.

B50 X4 is same a 955BE but with 100 mhz less at stock.

It has 6MB cache additional than AII X4.

btw X4 620 is a killer for the price, and it beats q8200 from intel in 90% benchs by fair margin. Q8200 is priced 8.3k+vat+ship.

search for good batch X2 550. If not found, then get the X4 640. Not much is known about the unlockable batches of X4 620/640. So it ll be pure luck on a 620 to unlock.

But is it available in Mumbai/India?
If yes then were?
Please reply quickly as i said earlier i need to buy either one of the processor by this Sunday....

a2 x4 can OC to 3.5GHz easily.. most reviews claim 3.7GHz

+ it will cost to comparatively higher to own a good p45 board which will OC Q6600 to that extent.

overall i think Q6600 will may have advantage in general computing due to larger cache but im not sure.

wait for intel to reduce prices on Q8200 to level of aII X4 and maybe Q6600 will feel better at around ~3.5k for 2nd...

Yea you are right, Q6600 is faster clock to clock, comparing 2.4 vs 2.6, still X4 620 beats Q6600 in only 1-2 benchmarks, no need of P45 etc for 3.5GHz, it has higher multi, allmost all P35 mobo's are capable of 450FSB with quads. Gigabyte G31 is rock solid OCCT stable with my Q9450 @ 3.6 (450x8) :p its VFM mobo @ just 2.3k :eek:hyeah: Kentsfield competes with Phenom II not Athlon II.

If this review is true, then 620 surely has better performance per clock than Q6600 in 80% benchs, and beats Q6600 in 90% benchs.
Their stocks clocks differs by only 200 mhz, and the performance difference margin seems more than that justified for 200 mhz difference. And 620 is 40W less power consuming at full load.
So i dun think, even a second Q6600 for 5k wud even be a competition for the 620.

Q8200 has to be priced down, lower than X4 620 for playing fair.

wow.. i did not know that g31 could handle quads at that OC.
surely great vfm :hap2:

a second hand ip35-e comes for 2.5-3k, coupled with a q6600, its still hard to beat, specially if youre lucky enough to push your chip near 4ghz. dont get me wrong im not trying to bring a2x4 down, im trying to decide myself which one to buy.
