Sleeping Dogs - Discussion Thread

Just completed the game and loved every bit it had to offer. Might I say that this is probably the most entertaining game for this year. I'm glad I went for the PC version, with all it's graphical perks, it was also a much smoother experience.

The story and presentation is something I felt that were the true highlights of this game. Voice acting just propels that to a much more cinematic experience. I liked Wei Shen's character; very convincing and hard hitting. The side characters were OK, nothing very special. The second last mission was insane. On a lighter note, I also liked the mission where we had to drive Peggy around for her wedding shopping.

The visual details this game delivered was amazing. With HD texture pack, the ground detail was simply stunning when it rained. Character models were very well designed. This is how GTA should have been; both visually and in terms of performance. United Front really managed to capture the authentic feel of Hong Kong. Central turned out to be my favorite area.. At the start, I had heard a lot of people running into some crashing issues, but I never experience a single crash. This seemed like a game which was constructed for PC from ground up, which is in rarity these days, thanks to the console penetration. Didn't like the radio stations, or any of the tracks, except may be a the one playing in K-Bar (not the Karaoke ones :p).

Gameplay was quite fun. I managed to complete all the favours, cop cases, Jade statues and almost managed to secure all the health shrines (just short of 2 in Aberdeen). Didn't find the redundant missions like the drug bust cases, martial arts club and hi-jacking vehicles to be of any interest, so ditched them. I invested in a Blast vehicle (Lamborghini Gallardo basically) and this was the best investment in the game as far as traveling was concerned. I could cruise from North Point to Central in just a matter of minutes. The handling was so smooth. Unlocking all the upgrades connected to your combat moves and stuff gave me a strong upper hand in the melee combat. So the fight clubs where I used to get my ass whooped, now became a sissy corner for me. The combat in the game was highly note-worthy, melee combat to be specific. It was more realistic and boded well with the theme of the game. People kept saying the melee combat to be lifted from Batman, but I say, this was much satisfying. Weapon combat was done neatly too. The whole slow-mo while moving around was quite fun.

Anyway, after clocking around 18 and half hours, I must say, I really loved the shit out of this game. Not really keen on a sequel, but United Front has left a positive impression and I would like to see them broaden their talents. Kudos team, excellent work!

Sleeping Dogs Getting Zombie-Themed DLC

The first story-driven expansion for Sleeping Dogs has been unveiled and is due out on October 30.

As befits a DLC bundle due out just before Halloween, the Nightmare in North Point pack will be horror-themed and revolve around a zombified gang member, according to Polygon.

Apparently the undead individual was tortured and killed by the Triads; now he's back with an army of the undead seeking revenge, and it's up to Wei Shen to neutralise the threat. The zombies' eyes glow blue and, when dispatched, they will vanish into the ground in a flash of green light.

The living dead aren't the only monsters due to arrive in Hong Kong though; Chinese vampires known as Jiang Shi will also be descending on the city. Thankfully, Wei will be receiving a peach wood sword with which to combat them.

No price has been announced Nightmare in North Point as yet. Other DLC packs for the game are also due to release this month and will contain new races, vehicles, armour and weapons.

Completed. This game sometimes reminded me of vice city.Absolutely brilliant game with an interesting storyline.Script, presentation, voice acting, gameplay everything was just awesome!Though it has some minor flaws like in the second last mission wei is badly injured but after walking few steps suddenly he becomes completely fit and starts to take down enemies normally. But still who the hell gives a damn the escape mission was damn exciting!:D Moreover the the cop side missions were interesting too. In the end this game as far as i am concerned is better than GTA 4.

Stunning game.

Completed it, and infact the credits are still rolling on.

Graphics are phenomenal, and story is fantastic, the voice acting top notch, the hand-to-hand combat awesome..... just everything is perfect.

9.5/10 game

Top three games of 2012 were Walking dead, Sleeping Dogs and Dishonoured. NQAT.

Best co-op game :p

Let's be honest, B2 wouldn't have been THAT fun if we three didn't play it together.
I can imagine it. During borderlands 1 while my frns were playing co-op I couldnt join them and had to play alone. And believe me it was punishing. B2 I expect to be the same and thats the reason I dint play it on the first place

Agreed. The game is best played and enjoyed in co-op. Can't imagine how one can defeat the final boss! :blackeye:

Did you try Dead Island by any chance? We can do it after you've recovered completely. @kauzy

I played this game few months back. It is a good refreshing game. For me the pros and Cons from the top of my head were:

Pros:
-Hand to hand combat(somehow liked it more than AC)
-Vehicle actions like ramming and highjacking+mostly everywhere available Valet and Garage
-Side Mission(better than GTA IV)
-The location(I swear I wouldn't have played it if I had to go through New York again)
-The Violence(?)
-Power Ups\Laddering
-Main Character development(That guy Wei(?) actually developed a ego overtime)
-Realism(the NPC looked quite realistic character wise , not graphically)
-Voice Acting was superb +Gotta love Emma Stone no matter how small here role was

Cons
-The Graphics(not a big fan of straight face talks)
-That overused Undercover Cop story done for the umpteenth time.
-Strange keys selection(not everyone changes default keys)
-Illogical things happening more than once like in that escape mission and the last mission, was that guy invincible?
-The inability to look at the sky just above the player(it was a nuisance to me)

There were more Cons which I can't recall. I will add those later on if possible.

OK, just finished this game and it is fantastic. I think this is the only open world game that I have completed. The pacing is perfect and there is a variety in the missions that keeps things interesting. The combat was fun, though the shooting and driving was mediocre. The shooting is somewhat improved by the slow-mo headshot chains and the slow-mo while vaulting.

The city was brilliant and had a lot of character. I also liked a lot of the characters in the game, which gave a certain urgency (or anger and sadness) to some of the missions. Game also looked gorgeous in the rain. (HD textures + 2560x1600). My GPU was not powerful enough to add SSAO or dynamic shadows otherwise it could have looked even better. The soundtrack was pretty great as well.

I'm so glad I got this off PS+ for free. Anybody played this on PS3? Any trophy wh*res? Looks like an easy platinum. @Gannu how many trophies did you unlock in your normal playthrough? Just wanted to get an idea the number of times I may have to attempt this :)
