50mm prime without flash -

The 50mm is quite useful in a big place like a restaurant. I found it quite restrictive in normal sized mumbai apartments.

Some shots with my Super Takumar 50mm F/1.4 - all shots @ f/1.4 or f/2.8

Bhairav nice snaps, you can utilize the sunlight a little better though... A little tinkering with white balancing will result in much more vivid snaps :)

@Techhead : The manual lenses won't always meter correctly. What you should do usually is take a test shot, see the exposure (i.e check the histogram for under or over exposure) and then apply exposure compensation (+ or -) by a stop or half as necessary. Then, the exposures should turn out great!

Hello all,

I am an avid viewer of this thread since a long time and would like to take this opportunity to congratulate you all on the wonderful photos which you all have shared with us.

I recently got hold of a digital slr and was trying some water droplet shots. Below are 2 examples.I wanted to ask few things regd it.First I ll describe my procedure.I keep the camera on some steady cushion and focus it on the droplets falling postition manually. Then I chose f/22 and 2 sec shutter speed and put the camera on selftimer. I have a flash with me an old vivitar 285HV.I kickstart the camera and go to the waterholder and place the flash beside the action at some distance umm about 1m. Then after the camera shutter triggers I manually click the flash button. It took few tries. Now coming to my problem, as you can see from the photos there is an ominous blur to the drops. Why is it ? Shouldnt the flash freeze them ? Or are they just too fast for the flash ?

Thanks.

@Spacevoid : You should increase the shutter speed to avoid the blur. Slow shutter speeds while shooting work only when you have a trigger circuit in effect for strobing i.e The drop of water crosses some sensor, delays the flash by some microseconds, and then fires - this way, the motion is captured at the precise time you want (rather than it being a random chance shot).

For the above shots, you could increase the shutter speed, and just click whenever the drop hits the water/milk (pre click as there is some shutter delay, as well as our slow human reaction). With some practice, you should be able to do this very well.

Refer to this link - quite a bit of useful info . simple water drops.
