@Kooldude16

Officially, it will not be available in India for at least another year. But for those who really want it, the wait might be as short as a fortnight or, at the most, a month. This is not just because of efficiently smuggled shipments but a technical ‘feat’ as well.

In the US, Apple has tied up with AT&T in an exclusive contract. This means that the iPhone will only work on an AT&T SIM card for which buyers have to sign up for an $59 to $100 a month plan for a minimum two-year subscription.

But in India, grey market operators say they can “unlock” the phone for just Rs 1,000 or Rs 1,500 so that it can be used on any network in India. “Unlocking the iPhone isn’t tough,” said a dealer in central Delhi.

In the US, the phone is priced between $500 (Rs 22,000) for the 4 GB version and $600 (Rs 25,500) for the 8 GB model. There are further variations depending upon the memory. Out in the grey markets of Palika Bazar or Sarojini Nagar, an entry-level iPhone will be available for Rs 30,000.

Unlocked Apple iPhone units are expected to be auctioned off at a premium, especially in Asian markets.

So yeah , u can get the iphone in india..

but avoid gettin one with the latest firmware or the most recent handsets..

THEY DONT ACCEPT GSM SIM CARDS(LIKE AIRTEL,VODAFONE) i.e they cant be unlocked like before..

if i were you id stay away from the iphone..

sure it fascinating but is not very practical as a mobile phone for daily usage..

ive actually used an iphone that was unlocked & using airtel simcard.

Some features in the iphone arent supported by indian gsm carriers like airtel. And dataroaming, internet surfing can be really expensive on the unlocked iphone..

do check out this link too..

Apple iPhone in India - Your Questions on Unlocked iPhones

so you can buy an unlocked iphone outright from a grey market dealer for bout 22+ k or get it from the US and have it unlocked to airtel or vodafone here illegally..

do check out this site if you are keen on buyin it now..

iPhone Nirvana - Buy your unlocked iPhone in India - Home

OR

You could wait patiently for it to be officially & legally available here in india (thro Wipro,HCL,Reliance Digital or an exclusive apple store )! might be a long wait though but well worth it..

Hope this helped..

For upto 5k you have the following three options:

1. Nokia 3100 Classic (Black)- 4.9k

~ 1.3mp Cam,Mem. slot+ 9mb int. mem,bluetooth,gprs,4hrs talktime,candybar form

2. Nokia 6085 (Pink/Silver/Beige/Black) - 4.6k

~ vga cam,more talktime,4mb int. mem,bluetooth,gprs,5hrs talktime,clamshell/flip form

3. Sony Ericsson W200 (Black) - 4.8k

~ vga cam,mem slot+27mb int. mem,no bluetooth ,IR,gprs,7hrs talktime,candybar form

Check out all three phones in person and decide..

@ havemore1001

The HTC TOUCH does look good and promising..

the key feature being the TOUCHFLOW!

Shortcomings:

-the basic interface is quite slow

-the TOUCHFLOW feature is not very responsive

-messaging is a problem with the tiny onscreen keyboard

-camera lacks flash and snaps are of average quality

-no 3g or fm

so if you don't mind the above shortcomings and jus need a new experience out of a windows mobile powered pocket pc then the HTC TOUCH is definitely recommended!

Retails for about 17.2k..

And Look out for the special edition of the htc touch which retails for around 18k!

I am leaning towards the Nokia 6085 although it is feature-wise the lowest among the three.
The two reasons to prefer it are -
a. clamshell form factor.
b. The general opinion that Nokia user interfaces are generally the easiest to use.

Is my second reason valid in this case?
Does the 6085 have a mode where it can record speeches? If so, is the recording duration a function of the memory card used or is it much shorter?

Guys wanted ur views on LG Viewty.

[Getting it for my dad]

Looks like a nice iphone alternative.

Wifi not a concern.

ne idea on whats bundled with it.

also does it have a headphone jack.

1.Yes it is a known fact that nokia user interfaces are the easiest to use and very much true!

esp. phones runnin s40 ..

2.yes the 6085 can record voices using the 'voice recorder'..you can also record calls..the voice recorder generally offers the 'memory location' option where you can specify either the phone memory or the memory card!

so no limitations as such...

i would have recommended the pink/silver 6085 outright but wanted to offer alternatives too!

Note: it doesn't have a dedicated 3.5mm jack for headphones but they can be used via the 3.5mm jack adapter availalbe for the phone

SO I'D DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THE LG VIEWTY !!

IT SURE IS A GREAT IPHONE ALTERNATIVE..

I'm sure your dad will love it..

Retails for around 20k..

hope this helped..
