i changed my product code to 0559950: APAC1 BLUE using the following method:

Do the following but make sure u have the latest Nokia PC Suite installed as this has the 5800 usb drivers...

1. Download JAF 1.98.62.exe
http://support.phone-tools.cn/files/JAF_Main_Software/JAFSetup_1.98.62.exe

2. Download JAF PKEY Emulator v5.0
MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service

3. Install JAF 1.98.62

4. Extract JAF PKEY Emulator v5.0 to desktop

5. connect ur Nokia 5800 and select PC Suite mode on your Nokia 5800.

6. Now run JAF PKEY v5.0 and click on the GO button. It will come up with error: box driver not installed --> so click ok and now JAF v1.98 will run.

7. select BB5 tab --> tick Prod. Manager --> then click the service button --> click the Read Values button.

8. Now u can enter ur product code and press the Write Values button and boooom it all done.

THIS METHOD IS TO BE DONE AT YOUR OWN RISK (even though its not a big deal)

CHANGE YOUR PRODUCT CODE TO YOUR ORIGINAL CODE (mentioned below the battery on the phone) AFTER YOU ARE DONE WITH YOUR UPDATE.
THIS MAKES YOU IMMUNE TO ANY WARRANTY ISSUES. Also, Nokia will not know you changed it. Unless a FW update is never released for Indian Nokia 5800XMs(highly unlikely)

this works only in windows xp and vista 32 bit versions. will not work on 64 bit os'es.
I'd recommend XP. (i formatted my computer from windows 7 to XP JUST to change the product code )

ALSO, please disable your lock code before updating. Re enable soon after the update. Recommended.
There there is a distinct possibility that upon upgrading the DRM rights will vanish , meaning the licence to play pre-loaded music can be overwritten or deleted making it impossible to play pre loaded music.

where s ur jaf log??

warn: ur anti virus might detect JAF PKEY Emulator as virus/trojan/worm...that is normal

changing prod code will void ur warranty .
but after an upgrade u can change your product code back
but
dont forget u have flashed your phone with a generic version not meant for your phone ..so even if u change product code back to original still ur firmware can reveal that its not for this region
now it depends how technical nokia service centre people are ...
if they dig into your phone and find that u flashed ur phone with a firmware of different region they will not give u warranty
or if they are not that intersted then u will escape and get your warranty

JAF PKEY Emulator v 1.0 to 5.0 are cracked sw of original jaf p key sw

by usb flashing high chance to make ur phone dead so better use 7pin F bus service cable to interface with ur phone

better to use original jaf sw

that's quite a list. thanks. however, as kirtibas mentioned... i think that if Nokia really wanted to find out if you changed your product code, they can when you send the phone in for repairs at Nokia care. this might void your warranty, right?

Thanks bro,
I was looking out for this dictionary stuff. Quite helpful. Thanks for the update

Hey Guys, this is a short review of the things that have changed with the Nokia 5800XM. It's running very well now.
Here's an unofficial changelog that I have made, depending on my daily use of the phone.

1. Much faster to use: Folders open quicker, applications open in a jiffy. Attributed to the overclocked ARM processor in the new firmware.

2. Usable screen rotation: The ASR works well now, and faster than before. Rotating the menus is seamless, and rotating images is much faster and i daresay i can keep the sensor enabled now

3. Gallery: Images used to take a long time opening and zooming, esp the ones i have, since i have a Pana Lumix fz-28k that makes 1.75 mb images at full 10.1 mp resolution. These images open quite smoothly now and zooming into them is quicker.

4. A couple of new icons and screen transitions. New tabs in places where the tabs were small, hence aiding in navigation with the finger.

5. Video playback is very smooth now.

6. Caller image is nicely blended into the contact pane, after the call is picked up by either of the parties. Earlier the image would disappear once the call was picked up. nice touch.

7. Messaging application, when opened sometimes, showed some keys of the active standby (ie dialler and contacts). Thank god that is corrected.

8. Touch Screen sensitivity is much better.

9. Download application updated.

10. Camera: Quality now has to be seen to be believed. Now on par with N73, which is a good thing. Added Benefit: Geotagging

11. Front camera has been enabled via menus, and photos and videos can be taken off the front camera.

12. Search Feature now searches for messages and files. Hence search file content function has been added.

13. Active standby screen is more customizable and now one can decide what they want and what they want to remove off the standby screen.

14. Messaging Application doesnt become slow anymore. at any given point i have about 1500 inbox and 500 outbox messages stored. Still works as fast as when the inbox was empty.

15. Battery life: Same for me, because i charge my phone daily. Use a lot of WI fi and gprs though. Send about 150 smses a day and 3 hours of calling!

16. Dictionary and Application Update applications added in the applications folder. Dictionary identical to the E series.

17. Menu Transitions are very smooth now, and actually can be enabled and the phone is no longer choppy with them on.

18. Log application doesnt slow down even while viewing the log for 10 days.

19. Video centre is now usable, and speed is decent. I dont use it anyways. the same videos can be accessed from the gallery.

20. Slight change to the calendar application and makes it even better to use now!

21. While calling, the proximity sensor only switches off the screen when the call is active. Putting the phone to the ear doesnt turn off the screen anymore when the bell is still ringing. Very convenient

22. Delivery reports: Earlier, the reports wouldnt show up on the screen after the screen was locked. Now the report shows even after the screen is switched off. Very convenient here too. Esp in silent mode, when you cannot hear the beep of the report delivery,

hi guys. thanks for the suggestions guys. but the changelog show that there is too many things to look forward to. thats why i changed it. by the way, there is nothing different between the generic versions of FW between the apac1 and the asia handsets. its just that they are phasing in the firmwares region by region and somehow we indians are unlucky. its frustrating to see such a huge changelog and not get that fw on your phone. lol.

anyways JAF is clean and if the steps mentioned above are followed properly, they will work the way they are supposed to.

cheers guys!

settings for camera are auto everything at full resolution guys! thats the best part!

^yes, the firmware is not available in India yet. the OP upgraded by changing his phone's product code. do this at your own risk. from what i know, it voids your warranty.

can someone confirm the warranty thing? i want to upgrade my firmware but after reading another 2 threads about faulty speakers in all 5800s made before feb 2009 (i bought mine in January), i'd like to keep my warranty around in case something screws up.

ok it looks like it's officially available now. i just updated through NSU but i can't really tell an increase in speed. the screen rotation feature is still slow for me.

ok after updating it is faster overall... much easier to type out messages with your fingers and lots of other niceties but the most annoying thing about the 5800 IMO is still not fixed. the automatic screen rotation still seems to have a mind of its own and switches from widescreen to normal orientation when you don't want it to. it annoys me to no end.

Read the first post dude:|

i aint asking about unofficial firmware update

i was asking about the update officially thru NSU

was it successful...coz many have reported memory card locking after updating firmware thru NSU for other nokia phones :ashamed:

guys who are updating now through nsu , can anybody post what is the custom version and custom version date of the firmware.

you can get the details by dialing *#0000#

i just tried and it failed. my fcuked up internet went down. i dont know every now and then it shuts down for a 10 sec gap ? whts the reason guys. its a 122mb file. some one send me the file asap. i wonder where the download files get hidden. my moms e71 files still there somewhere on the comp, itself. now no matter how many e71 i update it takes 15 mins only so the file stays on the comp till new one from nokia comes i just want to find out where. same like the iphone
