With the financial bids now open for the 126 aircraft i.e. the MRCA deal, with the winner being the lowest bidder, which of the two of these amazing aircraft should be chosen i.e. the Eurofighter typhoon or the Dassault Rafale should be chosen?

Dassault Rafale - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Eurofighter Typhoon - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

With conspiracy theorists hinting at the possible Italian connection wrt to Eurofighter deal and the possible exchange of cash under the table, I think purely on moral grounds we should go for the French Dassault Rafale. However if one is to consider the nuances and intricacies of aircraft design, the resulting capabilities and what not the Joint Strike Fighter offered to India by the US as reported in national dailies last week is what we should buy because its the absolute cutting edge of what is possible today.

Me too for the Rafale.

Already familiar system, Full tech transfer, I think compatible with our AC's...

I meant we should go for the Rafale on moral grounds (to avoid the Italian Connection we have). Although if we seriously want to upgrade our arsenal we should go for the JSF that the US is offering us.

French are not so innocent friend. They have picked up a reputation of being the most generous Ghoos Givers, and lots of scandals have emerged regarding the Hundreds of Million Euros they have paid for arms deals to Pakis. Taiwanese etc etc - all are documented- just Google.
Recently 11 French engineers were killed in a so called terr. attack in Karachi Naval Base- comes out that this killing was due to non payment of the promised Ghoons to some players in the defence purchase team in Pak Navy !!
This IAF $11 Billion order will swell to $ 20 Billion if the pipe line is to be believed, and all our political akas will wash their hands in the Moolah.
$ 20 Billion would have purchased 300 Block 60+ F-16,s fully equipped and serviced- perhaps the best thing for India- but US Laws do not permit Ghoos ! Hence Non US purchase.

US didn't offered it earlier. The offer was made after India disqualified the US F-16s and F-18's hornet from the bid. Rice even said that "this could affect Indo-US relations negatively". Later, a bill was proposed to know whether India is eligible for 5th gen tech transfer or not? And happily, Yes! :)

^^^The MIG 21 is a good aircraft ruined by low quality spares brought in by corrupt congress defence ministers. The Mig 21 is an aircraft which according to Prof.R Pant of IIT Mumbai's Aero engg dept(a person i have met many times and someone who has been instrumental in the design of Dhruv and LCA) one aircraft which relies heavily on the skill/talent of the pilot rather than the sophisticated skulduggery which is present in most modern aircraft. Also most pilots who fly the MiG 21 do so after coming directly off the simulators/AJTs which are a lot different from what the real Mig 21 offers.

There have been crashes for the other Mig aircraft i.e. Mig 27/29 in the recent years.

Wasn't Mirage the most effective strike aircraft during the Kargil war? Maybe going with Dassault is the correct way.

from wiki
On 30 May, the Indian Air Force called into operation the Mirage 2000 which was deemed the best aircraft capable of optimum performance under the conditions of high-altitude seen in the zone of conflict. Mirage 2000s not only had better defence equipment compared to the MiGs, but also gave IAF the ability to carry out aerial raids at night. The MiG-29s were used extensively to provide fighter escort to the Mirage 2000.[58] The Mirages successfully targeted enemy camps and logistic bases in Kargil and within days, their supply lines were severely disrupted.[59] Mirage 2000s were used for strikes on Muntho Dhalo[49] and the heavily defended Tiger Hill and paved the way for their early recapture.[49] At the height of the conflict, the IAF was conducting over forty sorties daily over the Kargil region

planes falling down would be mostly due to shoddy work and maintenance by the technicians. I saw on Discovery/NGC channel, a documentary on India's first ingeniously built LCA -Tejas at HAL Bangalore. My heart sunk when I saw those guys attaching the wings to the plane with bare hands. There was no crane or anything to lift it and keep it steady. And it was bolted with ordinary nuts and bolts. All throughout the plane, instead of rivets holding the pieces together, you see screwed on bolts etc. That's lots of failure possibilities on a 4.5 gen plane. Any one of those bolts falling would be the end of the plane.

If you get to watch the documentary, your heart will sink as fast as mine did. :|

Instead of wasting money on buying expensive aircraft from foreign countries, our government should invest in the infrastructure and education system. It is shameful that we spend more(as %age of GDP) on defense than any country in the world and that too in importing crap from US, UK, EU, Israel and Russia!

Seriously! If a country of almost 1.2 Billion that produces almost a million engineering graduates per year cannot produce the defense equipment to defend itself, then it is better off as a slave of some country that can!

The Indian Air force inventory is the perfect khichdi! Aircraft from Russia, US, France, India and England.
Exactly.

Indian air force has all sorts of aircraft's.

Imagine how difficult it is for armaments maintenance and backhaul maintenance.

Its better that we do not buy jsf.

With jsf,America wants end user monitoring agreement.

For we want someone outsider dictating how we should use our weapons?

Do you guys remember that one of early test of brahmos missile was failure?

It was due to gps satellites being shut sown on military level.

Afterwards we switched to glonass and started building our own guidance system for our missiles and military.

I would pick rafale as well but considering french got orders for upgrade of mirage aircraft's I highly doubt they will get more orders.

Today only while driving back,I saw some Indian fighters flying.

I was thinking while chipanda can make its own stealth aircraft after doing all kinds of reverse engineering on what all they got,we can't even complete assembly work if advanced jet trainer which we have ready made design and parts available from British aerospace.

Same happening with our sukhoi as well,

As far as I know,it was proposed to complete all sukhoi planes by 2015 or so.

I dont think it will complete in at least 2020.

To be real frank, our chalata hai attitude is to be blamed.

Talking of f22 and f35,

Their are talks of winding down f22 as it has many cost over runs and lots of basic problems.

Would you like if your pilots have to give arterial blood gas samples every time you are going to fly f22?

Those poor American fighter pilots have to suffer from hypoxia onboard.

I pity their condition of flying on plane where you dont know when your oxygen supply will wind up.

Those fighters have been instructed not to go beyond particular hight.

So its not always great.
