All of these gimmicks should be researched. This year I purchased photochromatic lenses for around 12K. Zeiss photofusion. They would turn dark blue in UV or sunlight. Then become normal inside the house. Upon usage I realized they only work properly if around below 35c temperature. Felt so foolish. No where is this mentioned. So now in the winters I get blue tint. Peak summers the glasses remain white. Spectacle industry is a huge rip off. Lenses and frames and coatings.

Go with Normal Local shop, 2 yrs. back eye specialist doctor suggest to go with plain glasses (no need to any coating etc.), also found that big shop Quote near to 5-6k and small shop quote 3k (for various coating/day-night coating etc.).
On Doctor advice, went with plain non coated glass for Rs.1200/- with Frame, while for same big shop quote Rs.2500/-
If not wearing regularly than how if you go with Bifocal Glass (fragile glass but withstand with normal fall/accident etc.), I found it little heavy but much Clear compare to progressive (plastic/acrylic lens). That Bifocal cost me Rs.350/- (for Glass only)

I am a long time Titan Eye Plus consumer and prefer their Ozone series of lenses. From my personal experience, with a thin rimless frame, people didn't even notice I was wearing specs till they came closer and it does a better job against flash photography compared to past anti reflection coats from other brands.
When my wife wanted to replace her specs, I got her couple of pairs(B1G1) from Lenskart. After she got used to wearing them fulltime, I got her better ones from Titan Eye Plus.
Recently, I also got a pair (B1G1) for my dad when his older specs became obsolete. Went with the basic progressive lens, 5.5k for 2pairs of specs along with insurance (he's prone to drop it or sit on it by mistake). He's 70 and the basic normal corridor progressive gets the job done for him. As far as lenses go, for most of the brands if not all, beyond basic is a gimmick. They'll claim its only crack/scratch resistant and not crack/scratch proof. I've seen such resistant lenses getting scratched by the dust accumulated on them while cleaning with the soft cloth.

However, as I am wearing specs for the first time, its getting difficult to adapt
(I only have power in near vision )
Most of the times, I am yet to figure out the exact place from where to look and then jumping between laptop and laptop place makes it more difficult.
I am also aware that it take around 2-3 weeks to get adjusted but I feel so much frustrated as of now !!!
Any practical tips from people who were in the similar situation ??

Keep your specs/head in straight to nose line and just need to down your EYES to adjust with screen, remember not to bend your head to down, if need than do changes in seating/chair height adjustment or laptop screen (tilt/angel etc.), watch some YouTube video on how to adjust with new progressive glasses.
If using Laptop than keep it at same distance as you read book/alphabet while visited at Doctor to check near eye sight.
Two to three weeks is a long time. Your eyes should get adjusted to the lens in 3 to 4 days time. BTW did they check the measurement with pupil ometer that is did they place a brow bar in your forehead for measuring the pupillary distance?Got normal progressive lenses (non-bluefilter)

Isn't ziess or essilor much superior, offer better scratch resistance and longer lasting coating? Unless you are just going for 0 power glasses.
Yes they are but they are priced exorbitantly and definitely not needed for a first time user or someone with very less power. More over your eyes power increases in couple of years time and these pricey lenses becomes dead investment.

Correct and just on a mere lens, it is useless to splurge on. If ever your spectacle falls down in a crowd or someone steps his foot on it, bang your zeiss or any military grade glass isn't gonna handle the weight and even if the specs fall inside your house, one cannot deny the fact that it might break or get a deep physical scratch.
Look at spectacles and lenses as a necessity first and fashion accessory later. After all, using them you are going to see this beautiful world!

Well when it comes to scratch resistance, I found them to be no different than cheaper lenses. So I stopped buying them as they do not really bring anything extra to the table for the premium they command.

That sounds strange. I had beeen using Ziess Photofusion for over 5 years now and never had any such issue with the transition in all weather conditions. Prior to that I had been using Essilor transitions, where the transition speed was a bit slow and the oleophobic/scratch resistance coatings lasted shorter. I usually switch glasses every 2 years, so had the chance of switching between brands/variants before settling with Ziess photofusion. This is my third pair and never faced any transition issue as such.

Yes, thats what I am getting used to for reading (or looking at mobile) and its fine as well.
However, while looking at laptop screen, which is slighty far and also looking at far, I am struggling

Yes, you may read it, if it fit/fall in your DISTANCE EYE SIGHT range. (But not recommend as per my Eye Doctor)
For Reading Glasses, I will suggest ALL FIRST TIME progressive glass users, please select WIDE or EXRA WIDE CORRIDOR (for Reading Focus) Glasses, irrespective of Brand.
While I'm keep praying for Bifocal Glass (fragile glass) in light weight, as Progressive can not match Traditional Bifocal Experience. (even my Eye Doctor also agree with me on Bifocal experience but prefer Progressive for Weight & Aesthetic Look), if in future I got chance will surely went back to Bifocal without much caring about aesthetic look !!!

If I am not mistaken, these lenses have a marking that is visible at a particular angle. Will help you check on the authenticity.
