XBOX One - News, Rumors & Speculations

Don't go by pre-orders. Pre-orders for the Wii U were tracking ahead of the Wii actually. Look how that turned out. (What numbers are you talking about, btw?)

Interesting. Rumours are that MS will make an announcement in the next couple of hours that there won't be any DRM, Online checks and used game limitations.

The rumour is true now. They panicked and swallowed their own spit. I am sorry for saying this Mods.

Today, Microsoft is rolling back those policies, and the company took to its Xbox blog to explain. "I am announcing the following changes to Xbox One and how you can play, share, lend, and resell your games exactly as you do today on Xbox 360," Xbox head Don Mattrick writes. He then states:
"An internet connection will not be required to play offline Xbox One games – After a one-time system set-up with a new Xbox One, you can play any disc based game without ever connecting online again. There is no 24 hour connection requirement and you can take your Xbox One anywhere you want and play your games, just like on Xbox 360.
Trade-in, lend, resell, gift, and rent disc based games just like you do today – There will be no limitations to using and sharing games, it will work just as it does today on Xbox 360."
Mattrick further explains that this is a direct response to gamer outcry. "Since unveiling our plans for Xbox One, my team and I have heard directly from many of you, read your comments and listened to your feedback. I would like to take the opportunity today to thank you for your assistance in helping us to reshape the future of Xbox One," he says. Further, he confirms that Xbox One games will be region-free, and that disc-based games will have to be kept in the disc tray rather than ripped to the console and played digitally (a previously touted Xbox One feature).
Though the One's down a couple features -- Mattrick specifically says, "These changes will impact some of the scenarios we previously announced for Xbox One" -- it sounds like gamers won this round.

Gamers have always won MS,i wonder who gave this idea to them. I am sure someone is about to get fired at MS. Let see who.

This is great.
I best Sony are feeling a bit stupid now as they have kinda lost a big competitive advantage given the hoopla they created about MS's weakness.
Not only they could have played it a bit low key and but they could have also timed their attacks are bit more diligently as to afflict maximum damage. Now it seems its more or less equal playing field.

Sony still has the cost factor on their side.

Also seems that on the Hardware side they are using run of the mill processors as both have moved to an x86/x64 architecture. They're will be aggressive price wars for sure as I feel both MS and Sony's development costs for this round will be lower than last time.

Microsoft cost on making this console is way less as compared to Sony. DDR3 vs DDR5 ram , comeon Microsoft.

Last week at E3, the excitement, creativity and future of our industry was on display for a global audience.

For us, the future comes in the form of Xbox One, a system designed to be the best place to play games this year and for many years to come. As is our heritage with Xbox, we designed a system that could take full advantage of advances in technology in order to deliver a breakthrough in game play and entertainment. We imagined a new set of benefits such as easier roaming, family sharing, and new ways to try and buy games. We believe in the benefits of a connected, digital future.

Since unveiling our plans for Xbox One, my team and I have heard directly from many of you, read your comments and listened to your feedback. I would like to take the opportunity today to thank you for your assistance in helping us to reshape the future of Xbox One.

You told us how much you loved the flexibility you have today with games delivered on disc. The ability to lend, share, and resell these games at your discretion is of incredible importance to you. Also important to you is the freedom to play offline, for any length of time, anywhere in the world.

So, today I am announcing the following changes to Xbox One and how you can play, share, lend, and resell your games exactly as you do today on Xbox 360. Here is what that means:

  • An internet connection will not be required to play offline Xbox One games – After a one-time system set-up with a new Xbox One, you can play any disc based game without ever connecting online again. There is no 24 hour connection requirement and you can take your Xbox One anywhere you want and play your games, just like on Xbox 360.
  • Trade-in, lend, resell, gift, and rent disc based games just like you do today – There will be no limitations to using and sharing games, it will work just as it does today on Xbox 360.
In addition to buying a disc from a retailer, you can also download games from Xbox Live on day of release. If you choose to download your games, you will be able to play them offline just like you do today. Xbox One games will be playable on any Xbox One console -- there will be no regional restrictions.

These changes will impact some of the scenarios we previously announced for Xbox One. The sharing of games will work as it does today, you will simply share the disc. Downloaded titles cannot be shared or resold. Also, similar to today, playing disc based games will require that the disc be in the tray.

We appreciate your passion, support and willingness to challenge the assumptions of digital licensing and connectivity. While we believe that the majority of people will play games online and access the cloud for both games and entertainment, we will give consumers the choice of both physical and digital content. We have listened and we have heard loud and clear from your feedback that you want the best of both worlds.

Thank you again for your candid feedback. Our team remains committed to listening, taking feedback and delivering a great product for you later this year.

Yeah, first they made the whole HD-DVD and Blu-Ray fiasco and lost to Sony. Now this. Its just adding insult to injury . I just cant stop laughing. ROFL .

Just shows Don Mattrick's attitude towards the gamers. Come to think of it, had Sony also taken a similar stand i.e. a 24 hour online check-in and a small fee for the used games, these suckers wouldn't have changed their policies. They got a clue after the crowd reacted pretty badly thanks to the PS4's E3 announcement.

With a better Kinect sensor, the Xbox One for 100$ more seems like a good console now. It will hit the 30k mark in India regardless. :(

"Complaining on reddit will achieve nothing, less than 5% of Xbox customers read reddit", well, looks like it achieved something. Frankly, I never expected Microsoft, of all companies, to eat their words. They have been amazingly bull headed in the past. Couldn't help posting this.

Haha such an EPIC fail by microsoft... But in all seriousness looks like it will be a much more even playing field now.. Will decide which one to go for once I know the launch lineup of games.

they should have left the diskless play feature by doing what steam does. so people could play normally with disc as usual even when there is no net connection and if they did not want to use the disc then the steam method (connected to net or an offline mode).

Yes,with PS4 they are even helping the Indie game developers. 30k would be a good price but i wish if they could somehow reach to 25k,i know its whimsical. I remember,i imported my xbox and paid like 30+ for it.
