Windows 7 takes a long time to start.

PC takes a long time to POST

When I turn the power button on, here's what happens.

PC takes a long time to POST. Cant seem to change the title of the topic

Problem 1:

Fans turn on

DvD writer etc come on etc

But the screen shows 'No Display found'

Now if i leave it on for say 5-10mins or so. The pc boots up. Earlier, like a normal pc it used to boot up fast. Now have to wait.

I also noticed for several days that the windows clock timing was off [which after googling around indicated that the CMOS battery was weak]. I changed it. No effect. Timing is still haywire.

How do I get rid of the boot up and the timing problem....

I have done a memtest etc. No errors found. My motherboard is on this link. I have updated bios etc

GA-MA78LMT-S2 (rev. 1.0) - GIGABYTE

Today what I did was remove the keyboard wire and lo, the pc booted normally. So is it time to go for a USB keyboard. Would it make a difference???

Problem 2:

Unidentified network problem.

I have a DLINK GLB 502t modem with MTNL triband.

Have tried both CAT5 and CAT6 cables. Dint make a difference..

If you go to windows compatible routers or modem routers on the microsoft site, its not there. I have been using this for the past two years on so. Could this be a problem for the unidentified network.

I had assigned a static ip on the lan properties, but removed it after I changed to the bridge mode. After I updated lan drivers from the motherboard site, seems this problem is laid to rest.

What do you guys do other than press the cross mark and let it diagnose itself?

If I want to get rid of the DLINK and get a wireless modem router [like one of the belkin ones] and still use the telephone, Can I use a telephone line splitter.... With the main line attached to it and from the two ports, do the following..

to attach one line to the modem router

other to the telephone

Intelligent guess would be yes , would it.

Too many questions. Thanks for the help... :)

Dont know if the following is important, but here's a summary of my pc: :D

Try booting only the essential stuff.

click on start and in search box type msconfig

in the system config window click on Diagnostic Startup then click on apply and ok.

restart when it asks you to do.

Now check the time taken on this particular bootup.

Sorry guys made an error. Should have said PC takes a long time to POST. Changing title.

@ varunversion1 -- No errors found with chkdsk.. PC is about 3 months old..

@harishgayatri -- have done msconfig.. Error with title. Shall change

OP,

I faced a similar problem of 'no display found' , but for me the post time varies from 15 mins to several hours.
For me the culprit was PSU. Check yours & report back.

Remove everything.. HDD, CDROM and all...
Just keep the mobo, proccy, ram and psu (GFX if no onboard display on mobo) Now boot the PC.
If it comes up properly in an acceptable time then start adding components slowly to find the culprit.
If the bare PC itself takes time to boot then there are few components that you need to troubleshoot.

ok. here's what I did. Removed the GPU and booted the pc. POSTs normally [no time lag] etc.

Then I blew the dust off it. Shorted the CMOS jumper for the heck of it..:D:eek:hyeah: Attached the GPU. Restarted. POSTs normally [no time lag] etc.

Hopefully my problems solved.

The 'No Display' happens after I turn the computer on after 3-4 hrs of rest. Will report back if problem persists.

EDIT:

Problem still persists. Also removed the wire for the dvd writer. Restarted. POSTs normally [no time lag] etc.

my psu was Corsair TX850. I RMA'ed it due to this problem & received a new one.
After that everything is normal & haven't faced the problem even once.

How did you come to know that the culprit is PSU?

I tested RAM with memtest & windows memory diagnostic, used different motherboard(updated both mobos with latest bios), tried onboard & discrete GPU but the problem persisted. Then I found a software on net to diagnose or you can say stress every hardware including hdd, ram, proccy etc.
As it reported everything normal, only PSU was left, having no option Rma'ed it & it did the trick.
P.S. I don't remember the software name & even didn't find its setup with me :( .

fortunately I could recall the software's name, it was HOT CPU TESTER free version. if you get hold of pro version. Then it would be great. :D
