Unless you've backed up the data first, long test is a very bad idea.

The drive is likely suffering from the WD slow responding firmware bug which develops after the drive starts to get bad sectors. I'd be if you are able to read the S.M.A.R.T. data you'll find that it has a lot of bad and pending sectors.

It's an easy enough fix to get the drive working long enough to get the data back. But the drive is a gonner afterward.

Right, because it probably has a firmware bug preventing access now. You'll need to get to a data recovery professional to recover it. I'm assuming you're in India, so you'd probably want to try this guy: http://www.chandigarhdatarecovery.com/

He annoys me, but he's the only person I know of in India who I'm positive has the right equipment to fix it. Unless you feel like mailing it to the USA where I am.
