uTorrent Download Speed Issue

My roommate and me use the same internet connection. We both have uTorrent installed which we use to download stuff. The uTorrent settings on both the laptops is same but still for some reason when he starts downloading my download speeds reduce to 5 to 10kbps, and his stays above 100kbps even if we are downloading the same stuff.

Any help?
 
Its because your bandwidth has been saturated completely. Ask him to reduce global no of connections to around100 and disable dht. you should disable dht too.

if 2 people are sharing the same connection, keep max no of active torrents to 1 download & 1 upload.
 
Also check whether he is using private trackers or public... I remember in college when we were sharing a 512 kbps line between 11 people (yeah I know how lame it is

) and one of my friends had a TL account. Whenever he used to start downloading, he used to get anywhere between 40-45 kbps and other poor mortals had to live with 2-3 kbps download speeds
