User Guides Using Utorrent

µTorrent was written with efficiency in mind. Unlike many torrent clients, it does not hog valuable system resources - typically using less than 6MB of memory, allowing you to use the computer as if it weren't there at all. Additionally, the program itself is contained within a single executable less than 170 KB in size.

Now tweaking part. Almost all options can be changed through OPTIONS (menu) >PREFERENCES in utorrent. I will be using CAPS to denote actual user interface in utorrent client. I will try and visit each of important ones.

1.GENERAL :

This is first item u can set in utorrent. U might want to keep utorrent client running in background, so theres "CLOSE TO TRAY" or "MINIMISE TO TRAY" for u.

2.DOWNLOADS :

U can set the location of downloads here.

3.CONNECTION :

Enable UPnP port mapping.

Enable "ADD UTORRENT TO WINDOWS FIREWALL"

These two options will make sure that ur windows firewall does not block the connections of utorrent client.

U can also set Bandwidth here. If your connection is SDSL (in layman's terms if its SDSL based connections, ur upload speeds are more or less equal, to download speeds, other mode being ADSL where upload speeds are about 1/4th of download speeds) then set your maximum global upload speed to 75% of your available upload speed. Otherwise your uploads might suck the bandwidth from download stream.

4.BITTORRENT :

Enable all "ADDTIONAL BITTORRENT FEATURES" namely,

DHT NETWORK

DHT FOR N NEW TORRENTS

ASK TRACKER FOR SCRAPE INFORMATION

ENABLE PEER EXCHANGE

Set "PROTOCOL ENCRYPTION" to ENABLED.

Next setting would be in OPTIONS menu > SPEED GUIDE. Select you connection speed and it will do the rest by itself. It will also check if the port is opened. Click "TEST IF PORT IS FORWARDED PROPERLY" and if it says no, then u might have to dig deep into opening ports in windows or firewall or router. Until and unless port is opened u will not receive connections thus limiting ur speeds. And there can be really no universal guide for port forwarding, each router/firewall being different. U have to find out the hindrance and look for solutions over the net.

Windows XP SP2 TCP Connection Limit (Event ID 4226)

With the release of Service Pack 2 (SP2) for Microsoft Windows XP, the SP2 has introduced a feature that limit concurrent TCP connection attempts that are possible to 10 per seconds. In Service Pack 1 or without Service Pack, there is no limit on concurrent TCP connection attemps.

This feature is introduced in order to reduce the threat of computer worms spreading too fast without control. With the limit, only a maximum of 10 connection attemps per second are allowed. This may have affects applications, servers and p2p programs that attemp to open many outbound connections at the same time.

exactly , this guide is a bit useless since all the options you just gave are already default . I just installed uTorrent 1.6.1 and downloading a HDTV clip . on torrentportal it says 71% seeding . but on the seeds tab , it says 0(0) . what should I do ?? inaccurate tracker ?
