Urgent help needed: Trip to Goa

Hello all,

It might seem strange about posting it here but I searched the net and the forums associated with travel have some of the most lamest and/or confusing remarks about Goa trips. So, I thought people here might help.

So Please, help.

Things you need to know:

1. I will be going with my wife.

2. Going on 8th of May. Got time till I go, but need urgent advice because I need to attend a one day meet and I need to submit my details in 2 days for the same.

2. I have never visited Goa in my life. My wife has, but it was a long time back.

3. I have no known person who visited Goa personally. Most of the people I know paid a sponsored visit to Goa so they don't know how to arrange most of the things by themselves, hence no good suggestions.

4. We are planning a 5 day trip (+ one day for the meet). Apart from the last day which we want to keep for relaxation, all other 4 days, we want to roam, party and merry.

Things I need to know:

1. First and the foremost thing I need to know, where should we stay? Damn confusing if you search the net. I need to stay near a happening beach for the sake of it. [Decided to stay near either calangute or baga]

2. Which is the best hotel near the beaches calangute or baga. Maximum amount I am willing to shell out per day is 5k or less. Food quality & variety is important. A private beach will be awesome.

3. Which places to visit in the morning-evening (i.e. beaches, forts, museums etc.)?

4. Which places to visit in the evening-night (i.e. bars, pubs, discos). (No casinos though)?

5. Will the temperature will be really so bad as made out to be? I reside in Delhi and the temperature is 43+ already. Will Goa be extremely humid in May?

6. Will a guide be better or should I plan/roam all by myself?

7. The thread I mentioned below says (or should I say implies) that Goa is not worth visiting in May. Is that true. I will get one Sunday only and will be back by Friday morning. Is it any good? The thread says most of things happen (that too in season) on Friday/Saturday. Will I miss everything?

I will add anything more if comes to mind.

Any help will be appreciated, especially from Goa residents.

EDIT:

Got some inputs from this thread: http://www.techenclave.com/general-talk/fao-anish-goa-trip-105783.html

I came back from Goa trip with my brother just a few days back. Although my purpose was different, anyway here are some tips.

1) Finding accommodation around popular beaches won't be difficult at all, in fact there will be good discounts due to off-season. Last year I stayed at Cidade De Goa in Calangute area...nice option for couples to stay.

2) Accommodation around the lesser known beaches might be a little difficult as shacks & beach cottages are being closed, again due to off-season. We were lucky to get beach cottages and such at almost half the season price.

3) If you want to save money, rent a motorcycle (or car, according to preference) and a map for flexibility in the itinerary.

4) It will be hot. Not as much as Delhi though. However traveling or visiting beaches in the afternoon isn't advised. Early mornings or evenings are best.

5) Rough itinerary could be something like:
Day 1-2: Calangute, Baga, Candolim, Anjuna(North Goa)
Day 3: Palolem (South Goa) or Dudhsagar Waterfalls
Day 4: Churches/Forts

Not to make you furstrated but...

If you want to Bake like Cake, than only visit Goa in this season, best time to visit is Nov-Feb.

in 2005 I was there from 1st May to 6th May, you will not believe but In those 6 day I roam goa with half chaddi & baniyan & on beaches I remove baniyan too (no matter either in water or out), never remove wet cloths as just in 15 minutes clothes (under garments too) get 100% dry, to hot, to sweaty & while roaming goa you just can't seat in to AC car or AC hotel room full day.

I'm heavy body person so may be heat is major problem... ask some native about ...

Justin, Goa is ridiculously hot and the nightlife is absolutely dead at this time of the year.

I'd suggest you plan a December trip as early as you can and come down with your wife for that.

Do PM me if you need any other info :)

Cheers!

^^ Because as you are a Goa resident, I think your advice should be spot on. So, for the time being, I am taking the advice and only going alone for the meet.

I will definitely bother you when I will make a plan. I am planning for the last week of November to go there with my wife. If I cancel it altogether, she will kick my b*tt :p

Thanks a lot bro .

Thanks alcy and Emperor. :)
