These tips are recommended for computers running Windows XP Home/Professional editions with minimum of 256 MB RAM !



To download latest version of utorrent click here:

First go to Options > Preferences > Downloads

1. Append .!ut to incomplete files-- UNCHECKED

2. Pre-allocate all files-- CHECKED

Options > Preferences > Connection





1. Randomize port each time utorrent starts-- UNCHECKED (use a value between 10000 and 50000)

2. Enable UPnP port mapping-- UNCHECKED

3. Enable NAT-PMP port mapping-- CHECKED

4. Add utorrent to Windows Firewall exceptions (Windows XP SP2 or later only)-- CHECKED

Global bandwidth limiting :-

5. Maximum upload rate -22

6. Maximum Download rate-- 0 (MAXIMUM)

Options > Preferences > BitTorrent



1. Global Maximum Number of Connections : 130 (for 256k connection)

2. Maximum Number of connected peers per torrent : 70 (for 256k connection)

3. Number of upload slots per torrent: 3 (for 256k connection)

4. Use additional upload slots if upload speed <>

5. Enable DHT Network-- CHECKED

6. Enable DHT for new torrents-- CHECKED

7. Enable Local Peer Discovery-- CHECKED

8. Enable peer exchange-- CHECKED

9. Ask tracker for scrape information-- CHECKED

Protocol Encryption

10. Outgoing: DISABLED

11. Allow incoming legacy connections : CHECKED

Options > Preferences > Queueing

1. Maximum number of active torrents : 2

2. Maximum number of active downloads : 1

Options > Preferences > Advanced



net.max_halfopen: 50

NOTE: If you are using Windows XP SP2, patch your tcpip.sys with www.LvlLord.de - Tipps, Tricks & Utilities - News tcpip patch.

^^^ 100% tried and tested !! .. I personally configured uTorrent with these settings nd i get 220kBps+...!!

You can try these out..!! and help me with a feedback as well if they do work for you !!..

lol im not doubting your speeds man. But thats not on a 256kbps connection for sure. Anyway, ill try out ur optimization and post back :) (though i cant do some of the stuff such as DHT etc cuz i mainly use private trackers)

private trackers will not allow DHT , so it will disable dht in your client anyway.

guide is nothing new :) . but a good guide for a newbie!
