my first year B.E papers ended on monday and now i am free till first week of august.
what will be the best languages i can learn in this period.
i currently know C and C++ .is it the time i should start learning java or first get even more well versed in C/C++ .
which are the best books for an intermediate person who knows about basic fundas and facts in C/C++ and java

The people who are well versed and specialise in a single domain have a better price on their head than people who know bits of evrything.
SO my suggestion is that you take up what you know and dive deep into it rather than exploring new areas. You'll have much better opportunities if you are really good in a language.

As for the 'best book', read the rest of the threads in the programming section.

Depends what you're interested in mate, I mean, if you're interested in SSL scripting, then PHP is the thing to learn. If you want to learn dynamic HTML then DHTML (duh) and XML, XSLT and XHTML are the things to pick up.

Stay away from ASP.

hey i finished my second year exams. its advisable to know C in detail. Theres not much of C++ in 2nd year but if you do classes properly it'll help in java. Also you could try learning Oracle.

One thing though is make sure you enjoy your holidays. relax while doing these subjects because holidays are few in engineering and its the only time you can rest without worries
