am sure hes referring to the speed and not the age.

there was a huge thread about skoda service on teambhp..i think the case is still going on.. u might wanna check it out before opting for skoda.

I tried the Polo 1.2, and as you guys say, it's a garbage engine - very noisy and clattery.

Thought the Fabia has better NVH characteristics?

Seems unlikely because of two reasons:

1) It's exactly the same engine tuned differently.

2) Fabia is based on the older generation Polo Mark IV. It would be reasonable to assume that VW would have tried to improve NVH on a newer platform.
