My dear sister, who always insists on not using a case, got her comeuppance yesterday when she dropped her iPhone 4 and cracked the screen. The phone currently looks like this:

The phone is working perfectly and I was thinking of attempting self-repair and replace the screen. I don't think the LCD is damaged since there is no visible issue with the display. Google led me to this link: http://mashable.com/2014/01/20/iphone-cracked-screen-repair/

So, the obvious questions are
1. Has anyone done this here?
2. The process seems complicated but is well laid-out, should I attempt this?

Looked on eBay and think these 2 items should be enough to do the trick:
Glass Screen - http://www.ebay.in/itm/IPHONE-4-4sF...le_Accessories&var&hash=item2588a7fa45&_uhb=1
Tools for opening iPhone 4 - http://www.ebay.in/itm/Imported-Ope..._DefaultDomain_203&hash=item258d7883bb&_uhb=1

Suggestions/Comments are welcome and really needed!

Weigh the cost of ordering the components and waiting for them and also buying the glass
Versus
Going to a mobile repair shop and getting it done then and there in front of you

Then decide.

Fair enough. Looking at a video tutorial, I see that there are around 34 steps along with a 1000 screws that are needed to be undone in order to do this. Basically, we have to go through the back and remove EVERYTHING in order to reach the front screen... ffs!

It would be an interesting project and I am quite tempted to try it out just for that purpose.

Know any shop in Pune that does this sort of stuff?

Go to MG Road opposite Marzorin shop and all area and you will see lots of mobile shops there (more towards SGS mall side circle). You should be able to get the phone repaired there.

I had gotten a quote of Rs 2500 last time I had been to a shop there. Is that reasonable?

yes you can repair it yourself..
the problem is the digitizer and screen are glued together using some sort of resin, generally both of 'em are replaced as it is convenient
fixed an iphone 4s of a friend at a shop for something 1600, as he was skeptical about my skills :D
