Hi All,

Am planning to get a Seagate 7200.12 1TB (ST31000528AS )

How reliable is this drive and any issue on firmware n all ?

Anyone using , please advice

Earlier i only had seagates but since 7200.11 firmware and reliability issue .. shifted to WD

Now even WD with the green series has so many horror stories .. so thinking about getting Seagate 7200.12 1TB

Don't go with Seagate .

Samsung and WD is good.

Samsung is best avoided and WD which was once the best choice is now full of problem and even the RMA process is a pain .. See the threads in the forum

So Seagate is a safe choice

Use to hear a lot good about WD 1TB but after seeing all RMA incidence on forums its not good choice..as far seagate 7200.12 is consult using 500GB 7200.12 for last few months...got great performance....amazing speed..never saw in WD(but don't known about WD 1TB 64MB).....+1 for seagate this time..... ya but if some one got WD green 1TB 64MB let them also post their views...but again RMA issue....next is your choice...

Is not about 3 yrs or 5 yrs but how reliable the HDD are . I would be happy enough if the HDD runs for 3 yr without need for RMA

Btw got a ST31000528AS from SMC and am testing it before dumping data ?

^Eh? Seagate drives have 3 year warranty as opposed to WD which gives a 5 year warranty for internal drives and 3 years for external drives.
