master sound volume not working..plz help

somehow i am unable to change the master volume in the windows volume control......the bar does move but the volume doesnt change....

and the scan using kaspersky doesnt return any virus threats as well....thought of deleting sndvol.exe and installing sndvol32.exe instead....but dunno how to delete it:S ..can anyone guide me on this?

is this the same as soundcard drivers?...i had this issue before installing the sound card....after installing that the issue remains
