If you plan to use Stock ROM...
  1. Install Titanium Backup
  2. Delete all unwanted default crapwares

If you wish to enjoy Custom ROM, which will give you more power, more speed, no lag at all and amazing experience...
  1. Install ROM Manager
  2. Install Custom Recovery (default is Clockwordmod)
  3. Get the ROM from XDA which you wish to use
  4. Flash it. Check XDA for flashing instructions (If you don't know how to do it)
  5. Enjoy your new lag free powerful ROM

I am not sure but you might install recovery using 2g connection.. Only thing would that it will be slow. Why dont you give a try to check that.

Yeah make a complete backup from titanium backup or a nandroid backup so you can deal with any mess up created.

Crap apps could be uninstalled after rooting. Remove ones like vaccine reminder, Bollywood music etc app which came with phone and you dont use it.

Dont uninstall anything you dont have idea of. Dont mess with market, package installer (or whatever the name is), bluetooth sharing etc. Like I once uninstalled LG Home app without backup and later discovered it was launcher.

The first time I tried installing Recovery from ROM Manager application, my phone got bricked(was using GPRS). Had a pretty mad 1 hour after that.

I finally installed Recovery using ADB. It is much more safer in my opinion.

Yes that's much safer. Many people experienced problem while installing Recovery through ROM Manager.

Well in simple terms baseband is the frequency band using which our phone connects to the tower. So we get Network, Data (2G/3G) etc.

So if you are on stock ROM...determining baseband is easy...
  • If you are on Stock Froyo (2.2.x) you are on old baseband
  • If you ever upgraded, or if you are on Stock Gingerbread (2.3.x) you are on New Baseband

Dont worry, Press 'Power Button' + 'Volume Down Button' simultaneously, you will get a boot menu, select reboot now.

I guess it should solve your problem.

No, its not working...nothing

I just did it..Somehow, I got this guide...

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1318750

saw the recovery mode and did a backup...but the recovery image was 5.0.2.0 and the latest is 2.7..Any differences ?

Is there any use of rom manager now ??

In your case the recovery may be corrupted, once again install the recovery, man start from scratch once again, will solve most of the problems.
