It's not an app related issue mate. Since most videos are 16:9 these days, they will be stretched either horizontally or vertically on any device which has a resolution with a different ratio. It is simple maths, nothing an app can fix.
I don't think it happens with any other tablets from android , movie playback is at 16:9 natively on my playbook.

I don't have NAS, so I cannot say about that. However about what issues you are talking about ? aspect ratio? file format? whats the issue?

one more TE member said he had trouble streaming videos with iPad. I used Air Video HD, plays everything flawlessly. No issues at all.

Issue while watching videos as all of them are not 4:3 you see more black bar compare to 16:9 or 16:10 screen so ipad use only 3/4 of its screen while watching videos. If you scratch video you loose 3/4 of its contents

I don't have any such issues, so does many people. It sucks that iPad doesn't handle all this natively, but there are apps which run just smooth and have no issues. AvPlayerHD, nPlayer and Air Video HD come to my mind.

^without jb also you can do it. You don't need to JB to copy movies/files or to stream

One option is to use Remote FileBrowser app you can transfer via samba .You can copy movies, files and it will also play them, although some formats don't play well in 1080p.

you can, but you need iFunbox installed on the PC. You copy the video files and play them on the device.

My eternal question remains: can we copy a file greater than 4gb onto an ipad considering it has a 64 bit architecture now??
You cant do that in android.

Even on iphone 5 i was able to copy movie of 14gb, i don't think it has to do anything with the processor. The file system should be able to handle bigger files. don't know about android.
