I'd go with the Core 2 setup... also, if you don't have a graphics card, get the Intel DG965RY motherboard (6.4k) - it comes with decent onboard graphics and it's a 965 board. However, don't expect overclocking options with this.

Thanks for the quick replies.

My last 2 PCs have been AMDs AthlonXP and Sempron .. Want to move to Dual Core ..Got a Dual Core Lappy HP DV5118 TX.. Really fast.. stopped working on pc after i got this lappy.. But now want to work on pc aswell..

the laptop is good a core duo processor and is pretty fast..

I mostly work with lot of web applications photoshop, dreamweaver .. asp.net sql server ,mysql etc.. So the system would act like a server ..I am a occasional gamer too.

Help me resolve either intel or amd

The Core 2 setup is faster, now you decide :)

Also, a 2 x 512mb DDR2-667 memory kit will cost you Rs.6150 - I'd recommend this over the 533mhz RAM.

Heres a review that should help you out a lot... head to head with the 3800
Intel 1.86GHz Core 2 Duo E6300 Review

"From the benchmarks, there is absolutely no doubt that the E6300 is superior to the 3800+ X2. Clock for clock,i t was top dog on every single test. Even at stock the E6300 held its own and even managed to beat the overclocked X2 in some tests. We have no doubt that if the 3800+ X2 had been run at its stock frequency of 2 GHz, it would have been caned by the stock E6300 in every test. The overclocking potential of the new Intel Core Duo 2 chips is quite remarkable. On stock cooling you should be able to squeeze out another gigahertz of power for free providing you have the right system components to take it all the way. Image some watercooling or a little phase change on this chip! Considering that both CPUs cost around the £135 price range, there is absolutely no reason why you should pick a 3800+ X2 over the E6300.

Intel has really got a winner on their hands. Long gone are the days of Netburst. The new Core architecture is here to stay, and it looks like Intel have regained the performance crown for 2006/07."

Core 2 6300 is even better than 4200+ X2 in benchies and with overclocking it can surpass AMD FX 600 dollar CPU... So its a NO BRAINER to go for the Intel processor. However motherboard should be at least Asus P5B, preferably P5B - E. P5B is for 7k... and has decent overclocking options. Only limitations are memory volts cant be more than 2.1 volts and the multiplier cant be changed. But that doesnt really matter unless u want to overclock too much, I think 2.5 Ghz would be easily attainable with P5B stock cooling.
I would consider at least PC 5300 memory as opposed to PC 4000.

@priyoban - thanks for the review link

@Sandy - 1Gb 667 would do i guess

@RiO - thx for the info

What abt heating issues ?

And what SMPS would u recommend ?

My system would have

2 sata hdds

1 ide hdd

1 dvd writer

1 cd writer

lan

2 or more fans

400w is enough ??

me wont be overclocking the pc for sure coz its going to be a production system

I haven't seen the new Intel cpu work, so I guess I would just go with what I trust. AM2. AMD rocks my world.
you whatt :S
core2duo reviews are all over the place....its the best ever in every way u luk at it...i hv an opty 170....I wud love to go conroe now...

A slightly overclocked E6300 can beat the Athlon FX 60 and Pentium D 955 in many of the tests in Sandra and almost equals the FX62 and D 965. Even at stock, its better than X2 4400+. You simply cannot compare the current X2 series with the C2D. X2 are better than Pentium D, but cannot be compared with Core 2.

100000000000000000000000000000000000% Agree with you.

LOL this thread is lame.... I dumped an oc'ed AMD a couple of weeks back for c2d and trust me the c2d at stock(that too considering only one core) will pummel the overclocked 2.7GHz 3000+ that I was using... there's simply no competition.... get core 2.

Don't expect it to... grab the E6300 from regenade2 or farookh right here on the TE market, you'll save a few 100's for sure.
