LIC charges a premium (pun intended
) when compared to the likes of ICICI and others. Of course, LIC's claim settlement record is several times better.
In terms of the current policy under discussion, as of now there are only two online term insurance options - the iProtect mentioned above and the Aegon Religare iTerm. By virtue of being an online policy without involving middle men and agents, they are able to provide the policy at such low rates. Brand reputation wise, ICICI Prudential is much better known than Aegon, so that is a plus. And this also has the option of additional riders, which Aegon's iterm lacks. Otherwise, if you are concerned about an online only policy and would like to take an offline term insurance, there are plenty of options including Kotak, Bajaj, etc.
My suggestion would be this:
Decide how much of coverage you are planning to take in total. Suppose you want a total of 50 lakhs coverage, take a policy for 25 lakhs from ICICI iProtect and another policy of 25 lakhs from some other company. You might end up paying slightly more this way, but your risk is distributed.
