It is a very common problem in the 4400s'. Most of my friends incl. myself is experiencing the same problem.. Since evn our speakers are pretty old we cant really do anything about it without warranty, Maybe you can check if they giv replacements by dropping a mail to Creative Support from their website. As of now i control the volume using Windows volume bar and keep the volume on the controller high.
