Help:Cracked Iphone Screen

My iphone fell off to the ground and I ended up with a cracked screen. The crack is cosmetic as it works perfectly fine otherwise.

The phone is an unlocked one and I have been using it in India. Do you guys think apple support would be of any help? Any other alternatives in India?

nope, broken screen is not covered in warranty, apple would charge you 200$ for the screen replacement or you can buy the screen and get it replaced locally or do it yourself

EDIT: if you are brave then Fix a cracked iPhone screen on the cheap

common problem. price to fix commone american problem is rs.9000 in bombay. mostly all do it here. daily one breaks in bombay itself.

9000 Rs!! Doesn't make sense to me as the phone is one year old. The phone is working perfectly fine even with the crack on the screen. The display isn't broken, only a protective material over the display.

Is there a cheaper alternative? Something similar to what Rave mentioned: Fix a cracked iPhone screen on the cheap

I can shell out max 2k for the repair, else use it as is or sell it for cheap...

Dude the thing is that the 'LCD + protective glass (the one thatz cracked for u) + the digitizer' is one single unit fused together during manufacturing. Hence if u have problems like

1. Cracked glass cover (like in your case)

2. Cracked LCD (like in my case)

3. Non-responsive touch screen (like in many cases)

This is what the site says:

Be careful there are people out there selling either the lcd or the touch panel by them selves and not together as a complete screen. The way the iphone is designed the glass touch panel can not be replaced separately from the lcd. The glass touch panel and lcd are fused together at the factory and can not be separated. The only way to repair a damaged iphone screen is to replace the complete screen. Do not be fooled as we have been working on PDA's & Smartphones since 1997 and know what we are talking about.

The only solution is to get the whole unit that costs between 170$ plus shipping to 250$ plus shipping. Below are the two sites that ship this part and are currently out of stock.

1. pdaparts.com (it redirects to the below mentioned site) : 169$ + shipping outta stock as of now

iPhone Complete Replacement Screen (Gen 1) - Includes LCD & Digitizer: PDAparts is the Palm Treo, HP iPAQ, Blackberry, iPhone, PDA Parts and Repair Specialist

2. ifixit.com: 250$ + shipping outta stock as of now

iPhone 1st Gen Display Assembly - iFixit

or you can get it replaced in Mumbai for Rs. 9000, there is also a chinese version @ Rs. 7000 that is very bad in quality, so rather go for the Rs. 9000 option

Here is his number: 9821166664, Mumbai, Ghatkopar, say that Jay referred (he's my friend and knows this guy)

i suggest using it or selling. 9k is still a lot to replace. and trust me people are paying for the same, bombay has some NEW money and it shows for sure. parts are expensive abroad as well as expensive as the new iphone 3g itself.
