Graphic Cards HD6900 series a DISAPPOINTMENT? Anyone else think so?? Coin in your opinions

^^ There is no point in getting it at that price without local warranty. 1.4-1.5k more gets you local warranty powercolor or HIS.

When it comes to performance, checkout the charts with 1920x1200 and 2560x1600 resolutions. There you will see why the 6900 series makes sense.

HIS Radeon HD 6950 2 GB Review - Page 29/33 | techPowerUp

HIS Radeon HD 6970 2 GB Review - Page 29/33 | techPowerUp

Now see this performance and the price that is asked for this. Also checkout the graphs on HardOCP to see how card behaves while gaming.

These cards are taking lot less hit in performance at higher resolution compared to almost everything.

At lower resolutions, it really does not matter if you have 5870 or GTX 470 or 480 or 6870 or 6970.

May I ask how many use 1920x1200 and 2560x1600 resolutions?

Majority use 1920x1080 or 1600x900 nowadays.

Who cares if it's 2% above 570 & costs 2% higher too?

On top of that ATI's drivers are amazingly shitty :p

At 1920x1080 especially with AA, the 6950 will be a good 20-30%+ faster than a 6870.

And the price gap is just like 15-20%, so a 6950 provides more VFM.

^^ Do you own ATI card at the moment to call their drivers shitty? :p

They are different, and yes you need to update drivers or game profiles for both manufacturers now thanks to the way drivers work these days. And there are plenty of good drivers from AMD. You got to see 10.12s to actually experience how stable and well made these drivers are.

Your argument about performance and price is null and void right there. If performance is there, then why not. And see the trend, it starts to perform better and better as resolution goes up. Then why not buy the card which is known to take less performance hit.

At lower resolution, both cards are churning out more than enough FPS.

Then why not a card which costs about same here, has more VRAM, has higher performance at higher resolution, takes less hit in performance when you up the eye candy and resolution, is performing at this level right at the launch with 1st driver set with new architecture, has better crossfire scaling, and has 2 DVI + 2 Displayport + HDMI ports ?

Its not like 5xx series has HPC advantage anymore. Nvidia compromised on that for better TDP and gaming performance anyway. Not that it mattered to gamers.

If anybody is gaming at 1600x900, they shouldnt be buying 6900 series or even GTX 5xx series or even GTX 470 / 580.

They should be buying 6850s or 6870s.

HD 6950 is not 30% faster than HD 6870 ! U can see in all games only 5 to 7 fps More than HD 6870 !

you have a point there

I surrender :p

@ Udit

AMD drivers are beyond awesome, it's nVidia's drivers that I had SHIT experience with, both on my desktop and laptop.

Anyway, no point buying anything now. There are a ton of new games coming next year. Big launch of CryEngine 3 and possibly some Tech5 engine game. It would make sense to wait for these games/engines to debut before making a decision.
Umm the CryEngine 3 is VERY VERY OPTIMIZED, read this to confirm:

Even with a 10-15% difference in the current gen, you can easily expect the difference to be close to 20% or even more with AA at high rez esp in future games. So the price difference is justified.

Well how do you justify this(currently HD5870 selling near 235$ mark FYI)

GTX 570 vs Radeon 6970 and 6850 vs Radeon 5870 - All Overclocked Review - Introduction

RECOMMENDED - EVERYONE go through this great REVIEW. You'll see what I'm talking about and why I started this thread

5870 is for around 20k in India.

If you get it for $235, you can even go for a 6870 for around $250 and that is perhaps the sweet spot for the time being. But if you want some extra juice, I really wouln't mind spending another 20% which is just $50 to buy a 6950 at $300.

I would get the fastest card in my budget since all are good VFM at the moment.

Anytihng btw 6950 6970 570 580, all provide good VFM.

Just check benchmarks to find out your requirements and then budget accordingly.

the 6950 is budget performance for an enthusiast. u cant compare it with 570 honestly...

the 6970 is a high end enthusiast's card. comparing it with 580 the price/performance ratio tilts slightly in 6970's favour. if u have that budget then probably wait for the 5970 replacement and then buy 5970..;)

the 570 is once again an enthusiast's card. but in between 6950 and 6970.

the 580 is the best there is in these four. but slightly higher in price than it should have sold for. performance wise a+. price wise b+..:)

^well, amd thinks otherwise...

I think the 570 is better vfm than the 6970, same performance and cheaper. Power consumption is more or less same. Any idea on the pricing of the 570?

6850

+10-15%

=

6870

+10-15%

=

6950

+10-15%

=6970

+10-20%+

=580

570 is btw 6970 and 6950 and sometimes better than both.

So all cards are small improvements over each other.

6950 and 6970 and 570 are all Mid end or Performance VFM cars.

580 and 6990(to be) are high end cards.

6870 is a mid range card (not mid end card), though even a 5850 is still a mid range card

570 is the card to get imo, nvidias better drivers, PhysX for some games, also the 5xx cards oc really well come with a good stock cooler.
