i am guessing that is a raid array because of the purely random read speeds across the spectrum

SSDs will give constant speeds more or less nad not spike like that

Since it's just a guess.... are you using Serial SCSI in raid?

noticed this yesterday but forgot to post.. take a look at the total number of gig's which were benched by HDTach. no who makes a HDD that clocks in at 8.6gigs
