Hey Guys,

Need your help Select a good P&S Camera.My Knowledge on Cameras is limited.

Min. Features Required :

1. Optical Zoom - 5X or greater. 10X Preferred.

2. Optical Steady Shot/Image Stablizers on Zoom. Whatever the technology is called.

I am also looking to buy a p&s / semi slr for around 10-12 k. which one should I buy?

it should have good zoom and should be able to capture good images in night too
 
High zoom cameras upto 10x are generally compact. You can carry them in pocket. Beyond 10x they become bulky to provide space for zoom and hand grip. Also you will not get very good photos at high zoom. As you zoom, handshake has more effect and antishake feature also cant help much. Also contrast is decreased due to budget quality optics used. So If you are not planning for bird/plane photography I would suggest not to go for zoom beyond 10-12x. Canon and Nikon are good brands but they do not provide sweep panorama feature. So if you want this feature below are the choices.

Sony H70 - it has good features compared to equivalent Nikon and canon (cheap,10xzoom, 720p movie, sweep panorama, lithium ion battery)

Fujifilm also have models namely T200 & T350 with same features as of Sony’s H70

you can compare these in showroom and check pq.
