Graphic Cards Geforce 6600bgt vs Radeon 9800pro

hardboy

Disciple
NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT AGP 128MB (500/900MHz)

ATI RADEON 9800 PRO 128MB (380/680MHz)

1)-1024*768
2)-1280*1024
3)-1600*1200
a-aa and af

At most times it should be calculated as diff of higher-lower/lower * 100 and after about 60fps might not feel performance increase but that increase will still be noted.

t-No noticeble playable performance diff(5-10% as I have taken)
p-performance diff

COD:United offensive
1)t 1)a,p,6600gt wins
2)t 2)a,p,r9800pro wins
3)t 3)a,p,radeon 9800pro wins

doom3,
i think it is assumed that radeon 9800pro falls way back

^^ Also, since the 9800 Pros sell at almost the same price as 6600GTs these days, it is wiser to get a newer tech card a.k.a 6600GT!

also the xfx6600gt is 500/1000mhz & costs less than the powercolor or other brands of 9800pro in bbay, & also xfx has 3 yrs warranty.

anyways ingame there is a big diff in fps between the 2 cards. i have had both myself & i found a good diff when using 6600gt with the newer games.

but if you have r9800pro then you don't need to upgrade to 6600gt.

also, when the diff in performance gain of gt is not too much then how did you find that in play:
except ingames like doom3,pop:sot,there must be more games as well but in some if both cards do very well then you may forget actual play diff also at higher resolutions especially with aa and af probably both come to be quite close .

i haven't posted the decimal places
approx fps
in games like cod:united offensive,if i am not wrong then maybe this was how it was:
1024*768,gt-163
pro-150

1280*1024,gt-116(116.8 actually but in most cases decimals have been ignored and this is the only case in which it is stated)
pro-118

1600*1200, i think gt goes ahead again.
gt-84
pro-79

1024*768,aa and af
gt-100
pro-77

1280*1024
gt-39
pro-52

1600*1200
gt-34
pro-26

Firstly this should be in the GFX section.
Hardboy we all know that there isnt much performance diff between the two around 5 - 10% max in D3d games, OpenGL is a diff story altogether, and yes it makes no sense whatsoever upgrading from a Radeon 9800 pro to 6600 GT.

But for a person buying a new card it makes much sense going for a 6600 GT.

A very imp point to notice is the failures of 9800 pros in Mumbai. There are too many of them even yours have conked so I would advise ppl to stay away from them.

Also Nvidia offers much better driver support for Linux. So though I have an ATI card right now its Nvidia all the way.

Is that so Aces170 ?????,

if anybody is having one such conked out card and if it is not under warranty, meaning useless for all practical purposes, then i am willing to buy one of these cards for academic interests only.;)

The ones I can remember :

1. techhead
2. Hardboy
3. Blade Runner

Also Crazy eddy had mentioned he had come accross a few dead 9800 pros....

Also most of them were Club 3d. PPl were prasing that company no end in TA I yet maintain stay away from it...

Hehe my BBA 9800 pro was one of the first and is still alive and kicking ;-). I guess it speaks of the poor quality of club3d products.

Mine isnt dead as yet :p, the fan on it is busted and this is the second time. If this happens one more time and i will probably be asking for a replacement.

Edit: And yes Club3d products that are sold over here in India do suck.........

Mine is also a built by ati and mine has not yet been confirmed to conk off.

Also,if i sent it back to us,by courrier etc what are the chances of them giving a better cad
like radeon 9800xt or x800pro as don't the companies in us often replace with beter cards.

Next to zilch chance since ATI still makes 9800 pros. Had it been a 9800XT, there was an okay chance to get back a X800 card.

the diff i noticed was in doom3, hl2, farcry. dint bother checking any older 1's. & the newer 1's that came out in feb or after feb i played it on my 6600gt so dont know how it would work on a 9800pro.

but if you already have a 9800pro its not advisable to upgrade to 6600gt unless u get a good offer for ur 9800pro & hadly have to remove any money like me.

did you try using the same system at same settings, which settings?

should not the radeon perform better with hf2 and equal in farcry

till when will they continue to mke 9800pros?

also, what percent ppl get a better card in return?

nah i found hl2 also to work better on the 6600gt than a 9800pro & also 9700pro.
used the same system for both cards & obviously same settings. & u can play hl2 & d3 on 1600 res on the 6600gt so its all pretty clear which card is the winner.

isn't 1600 too high for the radeon 9800pro

try at 1024*768 and 1280*1024 preferably without aa and af though you can keep at maxed settings and get the right catalyst drivers and tell the performance diff
cat 4.12 , 4.12beta better still try to use omega though be catious that it doesn't give artifacts or other troubles etc.

Also, how well are you able to run hl2 at 1600*1200 with:
radeon 9800pro
geforce 6600gt

do you get smooth performance and atleast 30fps avg with both cards?
