English TV series discussion

Watched the recent episode of Shogun (Episode 8). Towards the end... made me a sad and uncomfortable when:

Hiromatsu commits seppuku and his son cut his head off clean. Toranaga watching it and sacrificing his best friend... ploy or no ploy that shit was hard!

Next 2 episodes should be lit!

shogun is too good.

Just saying what I felt: It started off really well but then Episodes 6 & 7 I found to be rather pensive and boredom inducing. Long dialogues, deep.. almost too deep depiction of Japanese cultural elements and emphasis on side characters to an unnecessary extent just made me a little sleepy while watching honestly. I'm glad with the ending in Episode 8 things were made more interesting again and now with two more episodes remaining we all know that Toranaga is heading towards...

WAR!

And things are going to get crazy!

Watched the first 4 episodes of Fallout and loving it so far. The characters and story development on each of them is very well done and has been great fun to watch! Ella Purnell as Lucy has been nailing her role.

But the baddest a*s so far has been

The Ghoul

Looking forward to watching the next 4 episodes but will take it slow... don't want to finish the fun ride too soon!

P.S. I haven't played any of the Fallout games ( well played the first FO game many years back for a couple of hours but that hardly counts) so this show is fresh out of the oven for me! :)

Watching True Detective - Night Country. I had absolutely loved S1. So much that I had skipped following seasons for the fear of ruining it. But, I read that latest season was good. It is. Not anywhere close to S1 but still good enough. Dark white Cinescape also helps in creating the vibes.

Also watched For the Mankind S1 after all the good reviews. Didn't disappoint. Not bad at all.

Okey Dokeys

I was about to skip the series after E1 but somewhere in E2 hit me...

1) Manhattan - Interesting, will wait for the season to finish and then procure
// Its about to be wrapped up. Brilliant story of US nuclear revolution and process behind it. Starts of slow but picks up rapidly after 1-2 eps. Much like espionage drama so found it interesting

2) Legends - I am not Ready for this yet.
// I am a huge fan of TNT & Sean Bean plus its a crime drama so it had to be in my Top 3.

3) Power - Once again interesting, but this is Starz (People behind Softpornacus), will get the Pilot first and decide
// Surprise catch. I have been a recent fan of Starz but Pilot and Premise below me away. Binged on 6 eps and it just couldn't get any better. Diff. than others shows airing these days. Luckily its renewed for 2nd season.

4) Halt & Catch Fire - Like power will get the pilot and decide. AMC is SLOW
// With all the talk of Startups / IT/ etc, the premise was set in eighties when PC revolution began in US. Plot was vaguely similar to Jobs/Wozniak story but less dramatic and underdog wins type. Classic acting from all involved. The story and acting part has always been AMCs forte. Pace tends to be slow but then I was sold within 2-3 eps because of period/IT/underdog story.

5) Ray Donovan - Got it before,Loved it too....especially for the "banshee" effect (Yeah! i am in love with BanShee, its more fun than TBBT)
// Showtime + Liev Schreiber + a show about FIXER = SOLD.

6) Blue Bloods - One of your excellent Recos, a great Cleanser and steady performer, finished s05 a while back
// Same story / same pattern / same actor / same drama for last 5 seasons but each and every episode is fun for me. Huge fan of all the actors

7) Black Sails - had it,finished a couple of episodes i guess,will start later.
// Starz has turned a huge corner after Spartacus. Amazing drama with unique plot and skin show doesn't hurt its chances.

8) Hell on Wheels - Saving It,will watch the whole season at one go.I think at the start of every season That I will not like it but I end up watching it anyway :p
// I am not enjoying it as much as S1 & S2 but then I like Period Drama and Rail Drama so hanging on to it.

9) Survivors Remorse - couldnt find on Meta, post a link, pretty please?
// I am not sure if its released yet. 2 eps out as a pre air. Starz was the reason I saw the pilot. Its a dramedy - 30min so will continue it for few eps.

10) Alpha House - John Goodman -Getting it
// Hooked to Amazon prime pilots released this year. liked em so much so started digging their past series and found these 2 gems Alpha House and Betas

11) Betas - I need Comedy , Geting it
// Its an Ok show but had given a pass to Silicon Valley released this year so thought of watching this. Nerd Startup story. Its fun in parts.

12) Tyrant - I missed this one in above list. Nothing spectacular but a good show from FX based in fictional Middle east country. Renewed for S2 so thats good.
Anyone Knows where is @dipen01 these days?
That dude's tv show recommendations & reviews were so on point?

Finished 3 Body Problem. Never read the Liu Cixin book although I'd been meaning to. The show has a mediocre start, picks up well in the middle, and... then a very mediocre finale. Most of the main characters are really, really, really whiney. I especially loved the dramatic scenes where they're having engineering discussions and these supposedly supah-smaht scientists behave like toddlers. Not even any excitement for doing cool shit, or seriousness regarding the fate of the species, they're just always in their feels. I'm sure the book is better because the fundamental physics used is fine. I've always been fascinated by the sheer insanity of a porposal like Project Orion. But again, the show doesn't really do a good job of communicating how cool it is. 6.5/10.

Shogun S1E9
Shogan E9 - What a masterpiece, We are in for a great finale which I can't wait but sadly have to wait (7 days)
I won't spoil by discussing any further but do watch it
Absolutely. I was glued to the seat throughout. Not spoiling anything but the twists of the episode and it's final culmination was *chef's kiss*

Well I guess I'm the odd one out here who thought episode 9 of Shogun was too slow but the little guy in my head kept saying... just you wait, something has to happen!

And the last 10 minutes of the episode proved how right the little guy in my head was! What a deliciously violent finale episode now lies ahead!

The moment when the door exploded and Mariko was blown to bits.... WTF! Holy sh33t!!
