does open dns really help

hmm anyone know how i can configure my dns when im behind a router? i go to my modem's config page at 192.168.1.1 but i don't see any option for it.beetel 220bx.

uhh nvm.. figured it out :p

airtel 256k chennai.. i don't see that much of a difference honestly.

Yep, its particularly good in terms of update speed, if a site you frequent often changes its IP, it can take some time for the address change to propagate down to your ISP's DNS servers.

It does seem odd that its faster to get an address from a DNS server that's on the other side of the world than your own ISP's but this more due to a lack of power for the task at hand on their part, by which time that super-fast DNS has already given you the address.

if you want even more speed a local DNS cache like Fastcache (win users)might help, for most sites you won't even need to get the IP addr and can go straight to the site itself.

and for linux it's "dnsmasq" (yum fedora extras) and benchmark with dig command query time.
