Can I pair a dual channel RAM with a single channel RAM?

My Lenovo G50-70 has a 4GB DDR3 1600 1.35V RAM in slot 1. The laptop has slot 2 available where I want to install another 4GB RAM.
I see on Flipkart a decent price for a Hynix RAM with similar specs except that the description mentions dual channel while the original one mentions single channel.
Would it be OK for me to buy that RAM and install it?

It may work
Ideally both rams should be of same speeds and clocks and type
Original one mentions single channel because it is populating only one channel of the two channels available on the board.
Nothing to do with the ram itself.
Ideally buy two sticks of matching ram and sell the single stick off,
Safer bet

I'm on the same boat. Have the G50-70 as well with 4 GB. Which RAM are you planning to buy?
