BSNL evdo availability

I had been to the bsnl office in dombivli the other day to enquire abt BSNL evdo.But the lady their told me tht EVDO is available but the speed is only 144kbps.Is it true.Does anyone from dombivli have an evdo connection.Also she told me the waiting period for bsnl evdo is 1mnth.
