Broke Laptop Screen.Replacement Options?

Had a small accident, my laptop lcd screen is broken :-/ .Just the panel, not the exterior.I don't think accident related damage would be covered under warranty.

Its an Asus X-54H model.The screen is 15.6in.

What options do I have?

Do I have to use Asus replacement panel only or some other panel will do too?

What cost can I expect?
 
you may use any other brand LCD panel as long as you asus does not have any special kind of connector which is otherwise not available in the market.. theres very low probability of something like this but still its advisable to check before buying..

cost .. .??? havent updated myself lately.. but should be anywhere between 4 to 6K. maybe a little less if you got some contacts or purchase from the grey market..
 
4-6k even for 15.6in monitor?

Called the Asus service center, asked me to bring it in so that he could check in person, said it wouldn't cost anything less than 8k.Maybe he was thinking of the whole top panel?
 
Can anybody point me towards trusted laptop service centres in Chennai please.I'm getting a range of prices between 5k-8k.

Would buying just the panel from reputed distributors or dealers and fitting it yourself be an option?
