CPU/Mobo Athlon II X2/X4 or Phenom II X3 for Gaming ?

Which is better the Athlon 2 240 or the Athlon II x4 640 or the Phenom II x3!??
FOr gaming ofcourse!!1
And if i couple it with a 9800Gt or 9800Gtx which will give me the best performance? And what motherboard should supplement it??Budget is around 25K.(PSU Inclusive)
 
Phenom II is better for gaming due to l3 cache while Athlons lack

If u could get Phenom x3 720 for 6.5k then buy it Along with 785g mobo, if it costs more then X2 550 is a better Option esp since u can unlock 3rd or fourth core(or Both) with Asus/biostar 785g mobos

Can you tell me the price of a Phenom II 550 BE and a compatible motherboard?
Will this processor run well with DDR2 ram??
 
Yeah no problem with ddr2, its backward compatible with am2+ socket.

Phenom II 550 BE - 5300 (look for specific batch no. like 0922, 0929, 0930... they have better unlocking record)
Biostar TA785GE-128M - 4200 ( u may need to get latest bios to unlock 3rd core. ofcourse if u could unlock all 4 cores succesfully with stock bios, then bios update wont be necessary)

Thats full config for 25k, good luck with cpu unlocking. its best bang for the buck even as a dual core, so u got nothing to lose either way
 
It all depends on the purpose. If you are into gaming, then the PII X3 will do you better with extra L3 cache and higher clock speeds. If you are looking at future proofing and looking at more applications that are aware of multi-threading (even games in the future) then the Athlon II X4 makes more sense.
