User Review Asus Z97-Pro Gamer Overview

This is a quick look at the latest SKU from Asus, the Z97-Pro Gamer. It's the latest addition to the Gamer series and just like the H97-Pro Gamer, users can benefit from all those unique gamer-centric features along with the ability to overclock and use SLI and CrossFireX, thanks to the Z97 chipset.

In the box, you get everything to get you started like 4 SATA 6Gbps cables, Q-shield, drivers and utility disc, SLI bridge and the user guide. The I/O shield or Q-shield has also undergone a 72hr salt spray test to avoid corrosion over time.

Here's a overview of the Z97-Pro Gamer itself. It's an ATX motherboard with a glossy PCB finish. There's plenty of room around the slots and CPU area for easy installation of components and third party coolers.

The rear I/O ports include a PS2 combo port, 2 USB 2.0 ports, S/PDIF port, HDMI, DVI, D-Sub, 4 USB 3.0 ports, Intel Gigabit LAN and 8-channel analog audio. The Intel Gigabit LAN port also features LANGuard for protection against lightning strikes and static electricity.

Diving in a little deeper, we can see the close up of the motherboard area. Here we have the 10K Japanese-made Black Metallic capacitors which have 5x longer lifespan and up to 20% better temperature endurance. There's also additional on-circuit ESD transient-voltage-suppression diodes for the keyboard, VGA and USB, LAN and audio areas. This is part of the Gamer's Guardian feature set.

SupremeFX audio is another highlight of the Z97-Pro Gamer. There's physical shielding which separates the analog and digital shielding to reduce interference. There's also a dedicated headphone amplifier onboard. Rounding it off is an EMI protection cover for the audio chip itself and ELNA premium audio capacitors for warm, natural sound.
