Apple buys security firm AuthenTec for US $356 million



Apple have bought a security firm whose name is AuthenTec which offers fingerprint security on PC's and mobile devices. They have bought the company for US $356 million. The company also develops encryption technology, fingerprint sensors, and identity management software.

Some of their consumer base includes the likes of Cisco, Fujitsu, HBO, HP, Lenovo, LG, Motorola, Nokia, Samsung, and Texas Instruments.

Samsung had previously signed a deal with the company for the QuickSec VPN security for their android tablets and smartphones, though that partnership will continue to exist as AuthenTec will continue to support with their existing technology to it's partners and has a number of patents also. With the completion of this deal, we can expect some surprising elements in future iOS devices, and maybe even Macintosh.
