Anyone left Reddit completely and moved somewhere else? What was your experience like?

I left reddit entirely, except the times I need to use it as a resource to look up stuff. My issues with reddit were many, not just the god awful removal of 3p apps.

- mods would ban you randomly
- it was kinda obvious that many subs had a bias - and if you dont agree you are "fascist"

I always find it funny when these words are thrown around casually, especially in our current political climate. The less I talk about politics based subreddits, the better.
Same reason I have avoided talking politics or anything in TE - people disagree, it gets ugly, better off avoided especially since its so easy to doxx people now.

Anyhow, never found a great alternative but I have found that I visit forums specific to topics. It's nicer that way.

About the India hate, it can't be helped. After Americans, we are slowly becoming the biggest user pool on the internet. The Chinese are locked behind the great firewall. Other nationalities just can't compete with us on numbers. Earlier the world used to get exposed to a lot of American stupidity or strange behaviour or American exceptionalism, and now, they are also getting bombarded by the same stuff from Indians. Average Americans are thought of as dumb and sheltered due to their online behaviour. This is going to be worse for us as they have some saving grace like Hollywood, TV, music, tech etc. The good things about Indian culture such as food, movies, cricket, tech are not going to be enough to undo the damage.

Lots of Indians post creepy comments on celebs/athletes/music icons' pages and it creates an image of India that is neither wholly true nor completely false. The news going out is always about weird stuff like gomutra or age-old customs or crimes like rapes or lynching. A few ISRO missions a year will not be able to counter the daily news to save our image.
It's because we have a right of centre govt since a decade. The bias is obvious in the media from the usual suspects, NYT, WAPO, Economist, Guardian & BBC. I'm surprised its manifested on online fora. However, if these are tech forums then its to be expected as they tend to be liberal heavy.

On a larger level, the West wants India to be a bigger version of Pakistan. Pliant. Which will never happen and we won't be allies either. We are looking to be an independent pole. That will be resisted by motivated parties.

What's coming out even more is the anti-Israeli bias. That was always dormant but seems to have exploded of late. Quite breath taking to see on a global level.
My two cents is to stop worrying about it. We will be able to defend this image only if and when we collectively become better as a nation. We pretend to have progressed enough to compete with developed nations, but we have many miles to go and especially as a society, we are very far from 21st century ideals.
You're looking at it from a development perspective. That will take a long time. Instead, look at it from a governance perspective and you will find this is a better run country that is making the right decisions than most western countries. The politico-military fusion right now has not been this way since the early 70s. Political, military & diplomatic are all on the same page and working together. Quite evident from how we've handled covid, the neighbours and current challenges has been exemplary. The coalition era in the decade prior was the exact opposite.
I left reddit entirely, except the times I need to use it as a resource to look up stuff. My issues with reddit were many, not just the god awful removal of 3p apps.
I never joined Reddit, I mainly used it for browsing and usually found what I was looking for that way.

It would not take me long then given my positions.

But this need to label you fascist tells you it's a left-liberal clique. They can't argue for shit. And always want to silence you. Can't counter and can't accept they've lost.

Over here it would manifest by trying to get threads locked. I've stopped caring about this lot and just run them over now.

I'm always open to discuss politics of any nature but of late the threads get locked early because the mods don't want to deal with it.
Also if you feel the need to defend a(ny) country online, you might be part of the problem.
And where else are you supposed to do it? This is putting your knowledge to good use. I've defended the Americans, Russians & Israelis in their wars. The whole point of war is a better peace. I get called a state troll which I unabashedly am since I always mouth the official version as I don't see any other version as being applicable. The official version in all three instances was the most reliable and is what history will record. Understanding conflict comes through the eyes of the belligerent. Nowhere else.
There will always be dumbfucks who want to feel superior about their own nation by belittling others. Ignore them and stick to what your interests are. Of all the things you can use the internet for, arguing with strangers about nationalistic pride is stupid. Given how "passionate" we can get, let's just hope the rest of the world doesn't put us behind a wall for bullying everyone online.
heh, you really think we are bullying the world or defending ourselves? I wish we were bullying the world but I get the opposite impression with recent developments. The only fix to that is to stick together in the larger interest.

This country has always been put down going back to independence where a number of commentators did not think this country as an entity would survive into the next decade. Which is funny considering at independence in terms of GDP this country ranked 6th in the world and had the highest GDP in Asia. The problem then as it is now is we refused to bend to Western dictates. Or to put it simply sacrifice our people in their larger interest. We only care about our interests. Does not matter who's in charge. Always have. Always will.

The West thinks the word nationalist is a bad word. Just see the way Trump got treated by the liberal media because he was a nationalist. But that is not the case for most developing countries whose independence was won by mostly nationalist parties. So there is nothing wrong with it if the discussion and fora are political.

apparently reddit undeleted my deleted account. I am sure i deleted all my accounts 1month before reddit started charging for api access and they (reddit) keep sending me emails about TOS updates. So i just clicked on my username in the email and nothing was deleted. All my replies can be seen. My profile is as is. No [deleted] like others. I dont post much so i had deleted my account and even saved passwords. Seems reddit wants me to keep my useless account. I havent visited that site in months. Really weird.

with a pinch of indian;)
Honestly all Indian subs are bad in their own way but some are downright horrible.

Check /r/popular for India and then any other country. Our popular page is filled with bs memes, hate speech, and misogynistic/softcore porn subs with degrading comments about women.

It's good thing lemmy doesn't have Indian crowd yet.

@Mr.J
Reddit actively support hate speech against people those who are against their common narrative, without any sound rationality.
Now, imagine how chronic it is going to be in future:

Reddit will offer shares in its IPO at issue price to 75,000 of its most active users: report

That might be AI bot in training, not a human mod. You can expect AI bots to be high hallucinating, almost always :)

Is there a probability that human chatted after AI bot triggered the ban.
Even otherwise, many mods there are deluded with innate hate driven ego against anyone who even remotely commented against their feelings.
For eg., just being a Indian commenting at peak of RU UA war should've been enough to trigger some snowflake mods.

Something similar happened to me when I was banned for a comment asking 'Does creating new flairs cost money from mods' pockets? Lol.'

However, I was unbanned when I tried opening the sub again. Maybe the AI bot banned me and the real mods unbanned me.

So some context.
I did get my first warning around 3 years back .
Now this counted as my second offense.
And that it ,perm ban .

I understand the ban for a second infraction.
However, if that comment means promoting piracy, then i have no words.
Honestly looks more like a personal attack on me by some mod having a personal issue.
