@OP, since your majority PC use is going to be HD movie watching it will be good to have card like HD 4770(which has native HDMI with 7.1 Audio output). As other member pointed out, it is very good at power saving features(especially useful in your case since you are using not so reputable PSU like CM 600 Extreme). HD 4770 is also a very capable gaming card for almost all the latest games with decent settings so you won't be disappointed in that front as well.

Besides the above card HD 4850, 4870 and GTS 250 are also good option for you(purely on gaming front) but using these cards with a better PSUs (like Corsair/CM Real power series/Antec) would be more advisable in your config.

Just my 2cents

I would say with your current PSU you should go with the 4770. It's under 8k, has less power consumption (IIRC 80 watts) and will run the newer games with ease. You also mention that your rig folds into a download rig as well which I'm guessing is kept switched on for longer periods of time... the 4770 is not a power hog so it'll help. There is a newer version of the Sapphire HD 4770 coupled with a nice shiny Arctic Cooling fan available under 8k. I saw it on the Lynx website the other day. You might want have a look at it. :)

Btw, should you decide to buy the GTS 250 card, then upgrade your PSU to atleast a Corsair VX450.

Thanks guys for all your replies .:)
So I am currently looking at these two cards
  1. HD 4770
  2. GTS 250 1 GB
How do these two cards stack up in gaming and which of these is cooler ?

Will HD 4870 run on my system?. what is the current market price of this card?

I don't believe that CM 600w does not have enough juice to power HD 4850, 4870 and GTS 250. Could you please back your claims with proof?

I have a decent music setup with creative Xtreme Music card and MX5021 so
I dont think this would influence my decision to go for this card.

CM 600 is running a 8800 Ultra (power hog!!) since past couple of years. You should be comfortable with either 4850, GTS 250 and anything else below these. You might want to verify the power consumption of the 4870 though.
