40" TV - Help me choose between Plasma and LCD

I really love the true color experience and hence was looking at plasmas .

But I can only go for 40-43 inches . I dont want a 3D tv but Full hd feels future proof .

I ruled out samsung because surprisingly that seemed dull to me .

http://www.flipkart....bc-ea21c702a963

Now I assumed after reading some threads that panasonic plasmas are the best . So I thought this would blow me off or something http://www.flipkart....bc-ea21c702a963

but when I compared to the LG plasma http://www.letsbuy.c...2pt350r-p-17191

I found the LG better .

Is something wrong with me ? . Also the resolution of the half hd or hd ready anyways you might call it are absurd .

And how is this one

http://www.flipkart....bc-ea21c702a963

Saw a Full hd 3D plasma also at one place with a blu ray and it did blow me off but i came back to earth after hearing the price , 64k . http://www.flipkart....bc-ea21c702a963

Whats the difference between a normal panasonic and a panasonic viera ?

Dint want to create another thread because I might go for an LCD / LED if things dont work out , but my true love are plasmas .

Do give your opinions . Also can anyone with a plasma can tell me how huge a difference in electricity bill can I expect per month ? .

Because If it is outside my limits then again back to LCD /LED .

Thanks

The Full HD plasma which blew you off is same as the U30, except that it comes with 3D. T in Panasonic models means 3D. You should get a similar experience on P42U30D.

If flipkart is shipping to your location, go ahead and buy it. It is selling at a very good price.

Samsung and LG does not have Full HD Plasmas in 42" size. Plasmas are soft on your eyes but can burn a hole in your pocket due to higher power consumption

Not really, shouldn't be more than 50 bucks a month extra on your electricity bill.

Hi , thanks for the reply .

See this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kDE59j3h5r8

The reviewer says( not quoting , roughly ) that if you take a 3d TV and a non 3D tv with all specs similar , The 3D TV display 2D content much better than any 2D tv .

So that scares me because what I saw was 3D and the non 3D might not be the same .

Rs 50 ? For real ?

The TV consumes 275W , so If i see it for approx 4-5 hrs daily . So its like 1.1KWHr daily = 34.1 KWHr .

I thought thats like some Rs 300-400 Rupees per month but I could be wrong , anything wrong in calculations ? .

Also Am planning to only use this to see movies through my PC , so any problems of image burn . A guy told me that if i keep it on idle for sometime , it will burn the image on the TV . Thats bad ! Because I do frequently and may keep it idle for sometimes .

Plasma's are better for Sports and high motion pictures though they consume 2-3 times power of LED.You will never find blurring or juddering in plasma which is ever so present in LED/LCD's no matter how high refresh rate might be.

Panasonic plasma's are better but Samsung 51D550 is VFM....LG has good plasma too.

3D tv's always have better picture qualities for 2D content's just like Blue ray players playing DVD better or DVD players playing CD's better, so look what you see carefully when doing demo with your stuff with default settings.

If somehow plasma's do not come into your fold then go for Sony Ex520 or D5500/D5900 or LG 6500.

Both D5900 and D6000 looks similar with same panel.Though Series 6 tend to have CN or HQ (panels which are Samsung made).CN01/CN02 are lower than HQ01/HQ02 , with later being superior.

I have no knowledge of what panel Samsung Series 5/6 retails in India. If you are lucky then just ask the salesman about it or look at back for version number.

Thanks john ,

Sadly came to know today that flipkart doesnt ship at my place , local dealers are simply a rip off .

If I had the money eyes closed would have gone for the 3D one , but I dont . And the full hd panasonic plasma isnt available anywhere , Croma , Reliance , etc . Hence have no demo to see how it looks .

Also the samsung you quoted is way out of my budget , max is 29-30 k . The only reason I extended is that I really like a plasma , but 71k is out of my reach . Plus i dint like the quality of Samsung Plasmas , may be they were not set on the right mode .

What do you thinking of the burning the image comment of the salesguys ? . Is it right ?

Will go and see what the local dealers quote . I was also looking at Lg LK450 if i dont get a plasma but not many reviews around on TE .

34KWH doesn't cost you 300 bucks. I unit is about 2 bucks in the second or third slab.

I haven't seen any burn or image retention in the demo pieces. Apparently, 2011 and later plasmas do not suffer from burn in.

If you have demoed a plasma in a showroom, a higher end plasma will look much better coz of the anti reflective screen coating. Plasmas look really good in a dimly lit room, but they are no match for an LCD or LED in the bright lights of a showroom. Try demoing a piece with lights turned off for the x30 and u30 models and decide.

I am getting confused with Panasonic numbering. They have a plasma 42u30d and also an lcd 42u30d. Thats strange. Is it that I am seeing this in 3D?

Here are the rates for various 42" TVs from stores in Bangalore"

----------------

Sony Bx420 Rs 48.9K

Sony Ex520 Rs 64.9K

LG LV3730 Rs 58.9K

LG LW5700 Rs 77K

LG LK355 Rs 46.9K (I couldn't find any specs for this model on internet)

-----------------------

Panasonc Brand Shop (Jayanagar 5th Block)

[Sales guys were so confused themselves and dumb, they couldn't give much info)

Plasma 42x30 Rs 37K (Can reduce to Rs 34.5K on exchange)

LCD 42U30 Rs 57K

Plasma 42ST30 Rs 63K

-----------------

Pai (J P Nagar 7th Phase)

Panasonic 42X30 Plasma Rs 34.9K

-----------------

Adishwar (J P Nagar 7th Phase)

Panasonic 42X30 Rs 34.9K

All of these dealers were ready to reduce by another 1-2K if serious to buy from them.

^^Rates are recent i.e. last 2-3 days.

Put in single phase and residential and first put 501 units and then put 535 ( 501+34) and see the difference .

I guess it varies from state to state
