30k Notebook suggestions

Hi,

I am looking to buy a laptop near the 30k mark. Lets first get the questionnaire in order.

Code:
What's your Budget?

[i]30K-32K[/i]

What will be your primary usage for the notebook be?

[i]Report typing, MATLAB, Programming, Casual Games, Photo editing, Movies[/i]

What size and weight considerations do you have?

[i]Would prefer a 14" or 15" screen[/i]

Any brand that you prefer, or any brand that you detest?

ASUS

Any other considerations?

~ A long lasting battery would be nice[/indent]

[indent=1]~ HDMI port is must

~ Rugged build is preferred

~ By casual games I mean really light stuff

~ I also edit fairly large photos in GIMP so I will be maxing out the RAM[/indent]

I would prefer it if it comes with a Windows disk, or if a disc can be requested.

If it does not, can I install Windows from a standard torrent DVD and use my license key? Would that be illegal? Because I absolutely hate the crap-ware new laptops come with.

I was looking at this HP model: 1313AX - http://h10025.www1.h...cname=c03135742

PS: Since I dont need a really high end machine should I go cheap and get a 22-25k range one? Or should I be a little future proof with a better machine?

20k-30k category has a ton of models and can be very confusing.

Most of the listings in this price on flipkart (http://goo.gl/NNfnJ) will be able to do what you are looking for. Just go with the Brand you like. (I guess)

* If you don't game much now, then it might be even lesser in the future

. There is no future proofing at this price point. So, yes you can look at a lower price band as well or perhaps scan the TE classifieds for a good deal.

Looking at this one: http://www.flipkart.com/asus-k-series-k53sc-sx196r-laptop/p/itmdfw4mtcahmysn?pid=COMDFW4KFVM6CNFC&_l=iVusqdtQBeSjFmf3fWASHQ--&_r=DeZ0Jon876Y91bKIZYFObA--&ref=5f8e349a-4b72-4e94-bc3f-a7eb750a6533

and this one:

http://www.sony.co.in/product/vpceh26en

Sony seems to have a better pedigree. Will go to lamington rd Tuesday and pick the one that feels better built.

I will also take into consideration the price of a replacement battery.

I was told that the HP battery costs 2.5K, while the Sony one costs 7K. I am still wondering why the discrepancy is that huge.

Sorry about the previous post, I seem to be mistaken about battery prices.

[font=verdana, geneva, lucida,]I am very keen on getting the ASUS K53E [No OS] and buying a box of home basic. My only problem is that I cant make head or tail of the ASUS nomenclature. They have a million variants listed on flipkart but nothing on their company website.

For example the "Asus K Series X53SC-SX224D" has an I5 processor, (but is not mentioned on the website). And the "Asus K Series K53SC-SX196R" is I3 with windows bundled. My problem is that at lamington road, how do i specify the model number to the very last substring and be sure I am not being cheated.

Is there anyway to know which model pertains to i3 and which to i5. Which model has W7 bundled and which does not from the model numbers?[/font]

We all are in the same boat. Why can't manufacturers have simple to understand naming & price points. It's easier to buy a car than a laptop.

Anyways, I guess you need to tell the shop keeper that you need a [font=arial, sans-serif]Asus K Series X53SC & mention the specs you are looking for. That would be the safest bet. Or why not order from Flipkart? FlipKart prices seem to be very competitive. [/font]
