Laptops MSI Brand Gaming Laptops: Are they good?

IIRC Officially MSI has stopped selling gaming laptops here in India citing low interests. If there is one MSI laptop which I loved it was the GX640. Simple looking but I find the sharp edges to be manly. I really hate rounded edge. I wanted to buy it but it had been discontinued. I looked all over India for it.
as for the GS70 I also love this, its design. But I prefer a 15-incher over 17. And the keyboard doesn't look to be that comfortable is it? Why is there no dedicated hotkeys on the keyboard?
A curious question, whats the advantage of Killer™ DoubleShot ethernet ports? Real world difference? Personally I'm fine with standard ports.
Is the laptop customizable? People looking to buy a dedicated "gaming" laptop but cannot shell out for an i7 would likely go for the i5. or i3 even. Also just the dedicated gaming design with decent specification for its price works for me too. And oh what is the material used? Full plastic?

Actually, MSI gaming laptops will have a come back soon to India. GS70 will have a little brother soon with GS60, you can check MSI India Facebook Club (https://www.facebook.com/MsiIndiaClub) for up to date information about this!
As for the gaming features, (1) MSI gaming laptops all are with Steelseries Keyboard with all keys customizable using the SteelSeries Engine Software. No hotkeys are needed because everything is up to user for customization! Only MSI laptops are with this awesome feature.
(2) As for Killer Doubleshot, which is a combination of GB LAN and Dual Band, Dual Stream MIMO WLAN that delivers up to 2X faster data transfer speed compared to traditional means. In lay man terms, it is like an accelerator to boost up internet connection speed.
As for GX640, GX60 is the newer brother, which is the only gaming laptop with AMD CPU and GPU. Materials for all gaming laptops are aluminum.

I second this. a friend of mine had a very serious RMA issue with his Cyclone videocard. I feel bad coz i suggested him the card. In fact I bought that card saying its a very good card but...the RMA was a nightmare.

I hate to disagree but not everyone customize keys you know. I do macro keys but dedicated hot keys look way cooler. It gives that "Wow" factor. A gaming keyboard without that "cool" feel just looks too bland for me. You could say that I'm a bit picky lol.
The GX60 looks good on the inside but it has weird edges. Say, too robotic. Looks heavy also. Does this also use aluminium body? How much does it cost here in India?
How much do these models cost: GE40 2OC, GT60 2OC, GE60 2OE?
Is there no way we can check out these laptops personally? Sadly there is no MSI showroom around here anymore and I doubt that other stores keep them.
If I may make a suggestion, give options for specs, features customization just like what DELL is doing. That way people can choose the parts which they want and buy only what they need. For eg. I don't need the high-specs like i7 Haswell, 16GB RAM, very powerful videocards like GTX870M etc. heck I dont even need an SSD but I will still buy the laptop only coz I like the laptop (and not the specs/features themselves). The specs would be overkill for my usage and i would be spending on something which i would probably not even make use of it. So from a consumer's point of view its too expensive and the money is pretty much wasted.
Personally I want a laptop which has that "gaming" feel and not-so-low or not-so-high but decent-specifications like A10 or i5, 8GB RAM, 500GB-1TB HDD, SSD not required, full HD 1080p display (MUST HAVE), standard dvd optical drive, a mid-tier videocard, a 6-cell battery cuztomizable to 9-cell battery if possible etc etc. But most importantly of all the "gaming" factor."

Mobo and VGAs are constantly being sold in India. It's only MSI gaming laptops that are currently not offered that will be re-launched again this year. Check it on Flipkart! (http://www.flipkart.com/)

After service issues are really hard to measure even though MSI has already SmartLink (http://smartlink.co.in/) as it's official ASP center. It's one of the best and well-known locally. Can't really please everyone.
Will take note of your comments. We can only do our best if our potential channel partners are willing to do these stuff. Currently, there's no manufacturer or laptops doing this extensive personalisation. It's not economically possible that's why it didn't happen. Dell has this option with Alienware IN the US only.
I understand the economic issue but DELL did it with the Inspiron and Studio line-ups too here also. Bought a friend Studio using that feature. For markets like India and its sub-continent i think it will not harm to give it a try. From my shopping experiences here in Delhi I'll say that many people are buying what they don't need only because they had no other option.

I think stocking MSI laptop will be a big deal as not many people buy gaming notebooks in India. I mean it's not something which is sold everyday. The most people are willing to go is Lenovo Y510p. 70% remain at 50k mark. Maybe 3-4 in a year buy an Alienware but their performance price ratio is extremely poor.
I had to rma my gts 250 in the past, after one month i got the same card back wrapped in newspaper,sent it back and again after almost a month they sent the same card back saying they need the box and accessories along with it. By this time 2 months had passed and i was really angry so i bought a new sapphire 5850 from my vendor and left the gts 250 with him and never bothered with it again. My friend had a msi laptop which went bad and he was refused rma because of a hairline scratch near the touch pad. Don't get me wrong i love msi products, i am using a 6950 twin frozr III right now but the service is one of the worst i have ever seen. i don't remember who was handling the after sales support back then but if it was the same people then no they are not the best not even close.
Actually the Indian scene is like this. Most of the consumers are mostly made up of adolescent 17-25 years who use it for all-round purposes. And gaming enjoys an ever increasing popularity. The budget usually varies anywhere between 40-60k. Now these guys who want to buy laptops for "gaming" don't really find any model of their liking/need. For eg. many models had the HD7670M or GT540M or 630M or even the basic GT610/GT620 etc. Not saying these cards are bad for gaming but if you want to increase the detail they will never do. Also the "VFM" models dont stay in the market for that long. They get phased out quickly and replaced by newer models with little upgrade but a much higher price which is not worth at all and where the older models seem to be more VFM. Now the better spec'd models with, say, GT650M cost much higher. And all these models share one similar thing: bland looks. Simple, plain and boring looks. No "gaming" charm. Alienware and RoG laptops are another option and as far as aesthetics appeal is concern no one can beat Alienware in this department. But they costs over a lac here (not counting the M11-models) and like i said earlier many dont even use some of the features on it thereby making them utterly useless for them. And we Indians are super conscious about prices. So left with no option we buy the avg-looking laptops with avg- specifications in our avg-budget.
This is where I think that customization, if any, will help the Indian masses. Gaming is a very popular interest in our country. If right products are made and marketed properly and dedicated to the various users why wont it do well? I would kill to still buy the MSI GX640 because even though it had older processor and videocard etc it will still suit my purpose.

And it would be good if these companies stop trying to dupe customers with "2GB graphics". For laptops 2GB don't mean shit and its disgusting. If there's one thing which i hate it would be marketing gimmicks.

Exactly. The gaming market has not been well developed in India and the consumers are pretty ignorant. According to American standards, a gaming laptop always has GTX 765m or above. According to Indian ones, 635m and highest 740m. 755m/750m as in Y510p/HP looks like a luxury. While GTX 765m is only found in Alienware 14 from 1 lakh 20k onwards. This is sad. M11 is no longer sold. Looks like MSI is real this time. Maybe they will sell GTX 860m below 75k.
Thanks for the honest reply. We don't have netbooks now and have learned the hard lesson. For about 3 years now, MSI is focusing more on premium gaming laptops.
