Hi guys,

I need to add a new A/C to one of the rooms' in the house (11x11).

It does have a 1.5T LG window unit but it has conked off and lived beyond its life and is utterly useless ATM.

So now I am looking for a 1.5T unit, brands have to above these LG/Samsung (I do not want to get the gas refilled every year) and all the other not so brilliant brands out there.

I could do with a split to by plying up the window hole but I have to avoid any wall drilling.

Budget -> 35K and below. But want to get a VFM and good quality A/C.

Please help. Its getting very hot in Delhi and May/June are yet to come

Room Details,

11 x 11 x 10 ft, top floor so just the terrace above the room.

10sq ft of west facing windows.

48sq ft of non-west facing windows (they never get any sunlight)

All windows have black chart paper + thermocol on the inner glass wall.

I'd suggest OGeneral, when it comes to quality they are one of the best... But they dont have good looking designs though...

Ogeneral and Daikin are market leaders and they are used widely in the corporates. but when it comes to the home use, its Hitachi and Voltas (yes u read it right) which are good.

I dont think u need a 5 star AC for a usage of 10 - 15 Hrs daily that too for the duration of summer.

Daikin, Panasonic and OG have all started assembling / making units in India - quality as such ain't the same anymore. If you get a Panasonic that is made in Thailand, go for it. Else, check for Mitsubishi dealers in your place - a 1T Mitsu will get the job done just fine!

I own a 1.5T Mitsubishi (the Heavy Industries unit) for a slightly bigger room than your requirement and I find it a bit too much

A Hitachi 1.5T 3 Star is for around 32.5K.

Problem is the Hitachi brand outlet is still selling the old models and not the new ones.

I was thinking about Hitachi I-Clean ones too but a 1.2T version costs around 35K.

I really wanted to get something for the brand outlet as they generally do not have installation fee of 1500.

O'General is turning out to be quite expensive through. They start way over my budget.

Panasonic stores are selling the 1.5T pearl model for 26.5K. I bought the same model last year for 24.5K

If Daikin is being made in India, I wouldn't want to go for it.

How is bluestar? a 1.5T unit is available for around 28K.

oops, i have seen so many posts on Airconditioners and the questions are more or less the same and it boils down to the brand each of us own.

Ogeneral - Really good. I would recommend it. Star rating does not apply for this, since these are assembled in thailand and parts are imported from Japan.

Hitachi - Really the best. They are really good at cooling with consumption of less current compared to Ogeneral. Yes they are assempled in Gujarat, India. However Compressors are imported from Japan.

Blustar is good, but heard complaints about its after sales service

Not sure about Panasonic or Daikin but they are good too.

The difficulty is to select the brand, cos all these belong to the same league.

Everything is either assembled in India or China now barring Mitsubishi. Both Mitsubishi Electric and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries are CBU imports from Japan and are hands down the best aircons you can buy.

Daikin is still being imported from Thailand and not assembled in India.

I bought a Panasonic 1T model for my bedroom last year which is assembeled in malasia. It cools the room quickly and power consumption is also very less. I would recommend Panasonic.

Panasonic units are assembled in Malaysia. I think some of them are done at Thailand as well.

Even my panasonic units are malaysia made. However their indian factory is up and running now so newer products should all be india assembled. You still might get malaysia units though.

I bought a made in thialand Ogeneral Last Year. You could probably find made in thialand units if you look hard.

Also I know how the work culture in india is (believe me im one of them

) but i think these guys would have good quality control even if they are assembled in India.

I agree that these companies do not compromise on quality. However the packaging differs. The ones imported comes with a wooden base which does protect the units. I found the recent indian made units and you can find the condensor coil fins damaged or bent. Its because of the way we indians handle the unit. Its better to find out an imported kit rather than going for indian units for now

Will have to work pretty hard to get a Daikin made outside India unless I get last year's model.

Now I'm primarily looking at Daikin (I am assuming that Daikin is superior to Panasonic) and Hitachi. OGeneral is out of my budget.

Something with a cooling capacity of 18000 BTU/Hr or 5400W.

Problem with Daikin is that all their 1.5T models top off at 17750 BTU/Hr which is much less than Hitachi.

Suggestions?

Yes that is where i am coming to. You need to have atleast 18000BTU to call itself a 1.5 ton. Why dont you choose Hitachi??? their compressors are really good and rated at 18175 BTU. My 1.5 ton AC's consume just 6.5 Amps which works out to 1495 watts. I dont think any other AC's provide such cooling at much less current consumption.

Infact i did a lot of research before going in for Hitachi. All parts are imported straight from Japan and assembled in Gujarat. No indian components in it.

In that case, I have the following queries.

1. Should I stick to brand shops or look around in other shops as well?

2. Do all brand shops provide free installation (if yes then I have to add 1500 to other shops asking price)?

3. Do brand shops exchange A/Cs?
