Hi All..

Ok. So its been in back burner for few years now.

Been saving some money for this.
<
<
. And its been my dream always to go for a proper trip around Europe.

I read a lot, watch tonnes of movies, IF I watch TV that be like travel channels. I have to do this before I get married or something like that.
<
<

My total budget can be around or UNDER 5000USD. Can this be done?.

I planned to do this once I went onsite. But thats not happening.
<
. So from India it is.

Dates possible are from mid 2012 to mid 2013. In that 1 year. Then or never it is. If not, I am dropping this dream.

Places I wish to go are - Amsterdam, Rome, Paris, Berlin, Barcelona, Madrid, Nice, Zurich(Somewhere in Alps atleast
<
), Prague, Vienna.

Any help appreciated.

possible in that budget if alone. travelling within Europe will be no issues as you can take euro rail or euro bus or ryan air to visit the countries. You can stay in decent hotels as average costs per day is around 50 euro. it will take atleast a month to 45 days to see all these places. you will spend 75 to 100 euros per day. so its possible that you will have to cut down on 1 or 2 cities. if you stay, travel and eat budget on this trip, then 10 cities will be possible.

Plan and do this trip on your own and not through sotc or such group travel.

I and my wife last year planned and did everything on our own for paris and rome and it costed less than any travel agency or group travel.

London, Wales -->UK??

I can give u inputs on SWISS, France and UK:).....

First you need to finalize on the number of days u wanna spend in each place.

remember; its impossible to cover paris in less than 3 days (including disney world)

Going with friends, family or girl friend?

interested in adventure sports? Bundly/ Sky diving / base jump?

interested in seeing the heritage in each place ? i.e. churches in paris, other monuments, la-mona lisa!!!, etc etc? Louvre itself takes months to explore (I got bored in 3 hours and came out and never went back)

Decide the number of days and then work on the budget....

don't stay in hotel....use back packers:)

Travel agents sometimes work out to be cheaper; but rememebr use them for the hotel and meals and plan ur day as u wish. don't follow the group

5k can get u all places but u won't be able to sepnd quality time in any and enjoy the food and the culture.

I for one prefer doing all homework myself before a trip.

Use the travel agents to your adventage. Go to them with your rough plan and let them make something for you and then use that for yourself to plan your trip.

Use tripadvisor forums to plan and ask queries. They shall help you a lot.

Ok. Thanks for the input guys.

Yes, this budget is for me alone. And I just listed out the cities I "wish" to visit. Its fine to drop few.
<
. God willing, I can take them on another time. If possible.

Amsterdam - I just want to see the city. The cannbis shops, The palace, The "special" shops. See.
<
.

Rome - Vatican(Church, Meuseums etc), Colosseum, Trevi Fountain etc..

Paris - The Tower, Oh yes the tower and the Louvre.
<

Berlin - Berlin wall monument, Reichstag, Museum Island.

Barcelona - Sagrada Família church, Barcelona Cathedral, National Meuseum, Aquarium

Madrid - Palace, Santiago Bernabéu stadia..
<
.

Nice - Love the beach.. thats all.

Zurich - No idea why. Just wanted to go. Skiing perhaps.

Prague - The architecture is what attracted me. Castle, Meuseum, Cathedral etc.

Vienna - Same as prague. the arcitecture.
<
.

So depending on these the days. I have no idea how far, or to get there etc. So no idea of time.

Again, I understand all may not be possible. So willing to drop few.
<

@arvind..

I thght of starting from London (Love the Old Empire) and then go to Europe and come back to blore/TVM. But the UK leg will be more expensive.

@raks.

tripadvisor. cool, will use that. was using Eurotrip.com.

Watching this thread, something I have been planning too for long, though with slightly different requirements (family not alone).

#m-jeri, please update the thread with your findings
<

#puns , can you provide some more details on what your itinerary was like and how much it cost
<

@jerin....on the contrary London will be cheaper than Paris:) much more cheaper.

Also, Paris has a lot to offer apart from effel tower and Louvre....U have a maiive monumental structure; paris in a way resembles london -- They have preserved thier old monuments and builidng and the city is cleaner than london. Do some research and pls spend 3-4 days in paris. And for god's sake do not miss disney world:)

do u like to try out cusines at all places u go?

Also, when I zurich ....pls do take a Bungy jump (the last scene in Goldeneye here peirce brosnan jumped is actually a dam in Swiss where they do bungy); its one of the higest bungy's in the world and the 2nd highest natural Bungy

@agantuk..

will do.

@arvind..

Including london wont be a problem in my list then??

I heard paris is expensive. Thats why thght of keeping it like max 2 days. ur saying 4 days..
<
. Let me check the places u have mentioned.

Bungee jumping.. heheheheh.. Dear God.
<
. Ur talking of the contra dam r8?

U can do paris in 2 days...but u need to miss Disney world (1 day)...and a few places (not important if u are on a tight schedule). U can cover majot places in 2 days. Plan properly and reach Paris by 6-7Am so that u can start ur day by 9 AM. remember, most of the ppl in paris do not know english.

I was surprised to see if the pizza shop guys did not know english:). While in Paris do not forget moulin Rouge

London is cheaper compared to paris any day....search for 2 days accomodation in any backpackers; rates can be as low as 25 pounds:) ...u get lot of indian food there (I was there for 4 months in 2 trips). lot of places to see and visit. Its a must see city. So tiny road that they are practically one way yet the buses manage in those roads.

And yes I am taking about the Contra Dam. Remember...no matter what ppl say about sky diving...i adrenalin rush u get when u are bungy jumping all by urself can never match to a Tandem Sky diving:). Save some money though....Bungy Jumps are real expensive 200-300$ approx maybe more if u want a video also. and Video is a must for remembrance (BTW: I have done the Highest natural Bungy in NZ)

my trip was delhi - rome - paris - delhi. i got a great deal of 60k through fin air ( booked directly though their office ) delhi - rome and paris - delhi for 2 people. Booked 6 months in advance. Ryan air rome - paris was 5k a person.

Stayed at hotel cassia outside rome. travelled to the city by train. it is time consuming and can be tiring at the end of the day but visiting countryside farms, vineyards and the beach was the advantage. Local meals are 15 - 30 euro per meal for a couple.

you get 3 day / 5 days city passes which cover local transportation completely.

Stayed at Best Western in Paris which was decent. Paris is more expensive than Rome but one can manage.

hotel booking was through expedia & tripadvisor.

#agnatuk , My full trip was done in 1.25 L excluding shopping

Register here http://www.couchsurfing.org/

You'll find a place to stay in most of the cities. And It's better if you start booking now. You'll end up saving more than you can imagine. A friend of mine used this and now gives out his couch in Bangalore to the tourists.

P.S.: Take something Indian if you find a couch in some home. Small Ganesha, desi earrings or Desi (Channapatna) keychains rock (All under 50 bucks).

Interesting thread! I'm interested in doing the same some time in the near future.

Say the whole trip costs 5000$ for one person. Suppose its a trip for two people, will it cost around 1.5-1.75 times? or twice as much? Where would the savings be?

Savings would be in Hotels and Transportaion within the city. and u will save on Food also sometimes (Pizza/2, Coke /2 , water/2, etc, etc)...u also save time which means cover more places

Thanks..

But whats the second part???

Means get some small gifts for the CSer whose places you are going to crash at.

Dude..I am planning something similar too. But my budget is way lower, and was relying on crashing at friends' places or friends' friends' places
<
And yes, relying on CouchSurfing too.

decide if you want tobe a tourist in 20 cities or be an explorer in 5

getting there will be the most expensive part....check out airasia's flight via KL to paris...should be cheaper than most other airlines imo

i took boxes of mithai and hajmola (very indian things) as gifts when i went couchsurfing

Hehehe.. Okay. cool. Gifts, I will plan.

Gues i need to keep a small book or diary on what all stuff I plan to do, What all to do etc.
<

Too many stuff.

@nukue..

Both if possible. Just want to see all the stuffs i mentioned.

Also the bungee jumping seems to be THE thing to do.
