Trip across India- Any one made it?

Hi All
I am planning to make an Indian trip Nov-Dec along the lines of

Blore /Chennai-->Puri/Bhubaneswar-->Kolkata-->Gaya-->Varanasi-->Shajahanpur-->Dehradun-->Pathankot-->Dharamsala-->Jaipur-->Vadodara-->Bombay-->Cochin

I though initially with a bike or car,now has decided to go with train.Any one done something similar,any tips/things to keep in mind?

You are looking for this guy: http://drivoblog.com/tag/hvk/ He is a legend today, and can actually help you plan your travel, stay, fuel points, etc for any route in India today.
He can be reached easily on this fb group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/hvkumar/

Very helpful guy (if you don't annoy him :D). His club membership is really worth it since he has tie ups almost all over the country, and he's very much willing to help (and even goes out of his way to do so) any time if you're stuck up somewhere.

I've driven from blore-kolkata and kolkata-delhi on separate occassions. The latter is a pretty smooth drive. Blore-Kolkata is smooth too but for the borders of orissa and west bengal where there are tonnes of trucks lined up on the highway making things rather difficult and annoying.

Going by train is not my cup of tea. Might as well fly instead.

Thanks for the headsup. Is there some place in India, where the villages exist as we see in movies?I am guessing Rajasthan,Bihar or UP might have.

I have travelled from Kashmir to Kanyakumari but in train. It was a college trip for almost 30 days.

It was a college trip,it was in the year 2001 and i remember we were 45 students. Each one paid just 2500 bucks which included everything,coz the rest was paid by Himachal Govt. We went to all the major temples and famous parks in India. I calculated the travel and out of those 30 days,18-19 days were just travelling and rest 11 days for site seeing.
