So my trusty studio monitors and audio interface conked off over the weekend (FML), couldn't afford a replacement atm so picked these 2.1 speakers for 4100 using coupons off of ebay.
I spent hours looking for vfm 2.1 speakers but looks like this segment is completely dead, there's no MX5021 or a Promedia 2.1 or SP2500 alternative in the market, Altec Lansing doesn't even make desktop speakers anymore, what we're left is the usual gamut of boomy Creative, Logitech and F&D speakers.
There's a new brand called Thonet & Vander and their speakers look good and have some favorable reviews but wasn't sure of the ASS so went with the Samsung HW-H20 instead, the speakers look good but the quality of the connecting wires leave much to be desired, the 6.5 inch sub lacks the punch of something like the 5021 and is still a bit boomy for my taste but the clarity is decent and they're definitely worth taking a look at if you're in the market for a 2.1 system under 5k for general use.
